Potter's Feeling... Lucky

Lily Evans sat at the Gryffindor table, buttering her toast and cramming in some last-minute revision she had semi-neglected the night before. She skimmed quickly over the familiar words of her notes and tried to make her tired brain make sense of them, which was proving difficult as opposite her sat James Potter.

James Potter was loudly eating his cereal and talking to Sirius Black. Yet every few moments his yes would flicker back to Lily, much to Lily's annoyance. He too was Porevising (i.e. having a book out in front of him, but not really looking at it. Not once.). He ran his fingers through his dark hair every few moments as well, which also annoyed Lily.

"Sooo, Evans," he said smoothly. Lily knew this moment was coming sooner or later. "Wanna go to Hogsmeade with me this weekend?" Lily sighed, shoved her notes aside and lifted her eyes to James.

"I've said no every other time you've asked me. Whatever in the world possesses you to think that I'll say different this time?" She asked, looking at him expressionlessly.

"Hmm... Dunno. Today I just feel... Lucky," he grinned mischievously.

"Lucky? You mean arrogant, right?"

"But that's not a no, riiight..?" He piped up hopefully.

"No. Maybe. Nothing. It's nothing." Lily was getting flustered, and James was as persistent as ever.

"Ahah! There was defiantly a maybe in there!" He exclaimed triumphantly.

"No there wasn't," said Lily firmly, blushing slightly

"Yeah there was," said Sirius sneakily, smirking at Lily. She blushed even more and looked back at her notes.

James smirked as well, and reached over to touch Lily's hand. He had barely touched it before Lily snatched it away, and glared her infamous 'Leave-Me-Alone-Potter!'- glare that he knew only too well. He reluctantly pulled his hand back. Sirius sniggered. James elbowed him in the ribs.

"Chill Prongs," he said, holding up his hands. James ignored him, and an expression of thought crossed his face for a mere second before he opened his mouth again.

"Evans..." he ventured. Lily sighed heavily and looked at him angrily.

"I'm trying to study, Potter." Lily said, firmly.

"Maybe another weekend," tried Remus, who had actually been revising the whole time. He immediately shut-up with a pointed look from James.

"Oh! How come doesn't get elbowed the ribs?" Exclaimed Sirius. "He was just as inappropriate as me!" James ignored him.

"Evans, can I borrow your notes on that potion we did last week," asked James, grinning. "I lost mine."

"You mean you didn't take any, just so you could bother me for mine."

"Something like that," said James with cocky grin on his face. Lily shoved the notes towards him.

"I really hate you, Potter."

The four sat in silence. Lily was reading her notes, and in between pages she'd look suspiciously at James. James was pretending to read Lily's notes, but was really drawing mis-shaped hearts with things like 'LE+JP' written inside them all over her potions notes. Sirius was noisily eating cereal, and spilling it over his half-finished charms homework and Remus was silently reading, but giving James and Lily knowing glances whenever they caught each other's eye.

"Evans..." James began.

"Mmmm..." Lily reluctantly looked up at James.

"You never answered my question. Will you go to Hogsmeade with me?"
