There You'll Be

Disclaimer: I don't own Dark Angel or any of its characters; I leave that to creator, James Cameron and Charles H Eglee.

I can't believe it, Max thought to herself. I'm finally free of the virus. What she wanted most of all was to run into Logan's, the man she loved for almost two years of her life, waiting arms.

Max wasn't quite sure how Logan would take to the news. The last time she thought she was cured, she had a twelve hour window, but their romantic interlude had been slammed shut by finding out that they had to chase a Manticore experiment. That aside, she was finally cured without worrying about killing him.

Max leaned her head against the back of the wall of the elevator that was taking her up to Logan's. She was nervous and wasn't quite sure what she'd say to Logan. Or what she should say to him.

Maybe actions are better than words, she mused as the elevator chimed to signal the floor she was getting off at and the doors opened. She took a deep breath before walking down the hall to Logan's. She moved quietly as she made her down the hall without any thoughts of why she shouldn't be doing this.

Before Max had a chance to think clearly, she knocked on Logan's door.

The door opened, and Logan, beautifully handsome as ever, stood on the other side of the door. "Max," he said before Max launched herself at him and gave him one big smacking kiss.

When Logan moaned, Max let go of him to get a look at his face. To see his reaction.

"You're sure?" Logan asked understanding what Max was trying to tell him. "This isn't a temporary cure." He still held her not believing that it's right.

Max shook her head. "It's permanent," she said.

"You're sure, Max?" Logan repeated. "The timing hasn't ever been right."

"If the timing isn't right, Logan, I wouldn't be here," Max said. "I love you." She watched his eyes soften. She had said it before, but he had walked off before he could hear her say it.

Logan leaned down and kissed her again. Really kissed her, and it was her turn to moan. "You know there was a part of me that wasn't sure if you did," he confessed.

Max was shocked. How could he think that? She wondered.

Max didn't know she voiced her thoughts until Logan said, "Fear and doubt. It has a way of getting to us." Logan smiled at her and brushed away the strand that had gotten loose behind her ear. "Since we didn't finish our romantic interlude last time, why don't we start over? I'll make you supper."

Max smiled at Logan. "I'd like that," she said.

Logan let go of Max and started for the kitchen when Max left her hand on his arm.

"Logan," Max said.

Logan turned back and saw the plea in Max's eyes. He smiled and kissed her once more. "You already know that I love you, Max," he said. "That won't ever change no matter what happens to us."

"I know," Max said, "but it is nice to be reminded once in a while."

"Well, then," Logan said. "I love you for how many times that I don't remember to tell you." He kissed her one more time.

"What's on the menu for dinner tonight?" Max asked.

"Max," Logan said. "You're not the only one who needs to be reminded every now and again."

Max smiled at him. "I know," she said. "I love you, Logan, for how many times that I don't remember to tell you."

"Not likely," Logan teased. "Let's see what I can cook for both of us."
