Their stares pierce through Sakura's back while their rude remarks piles up against her shoulders, weighing her down with doubt about her new relationship with the only man she'll ever love.
They think it's unacceptable for the pride of the village to be with a former traitor. Even after he helped in the war and completed his redemption journey, they still don't approve of him. Sakura has overheard many judging comments about him, all from he's no good because he's an Uchiha, to he's only using her to purify his name from the wrongs he's committed. But Sakura knows better than to believe their silly comments as they don't know anything about them. Sakura knows Sasuke, and she knows that he's not like that. He may be darkness and she may be light, but she's the light that will drive away the darkness that surrounds his heart and harbours his being.
They don't know the gentle look of his dark mismatched eyes that are only meant for her. They don't know how soft and addicting his touches are that sets off sparks inside of her that leaves her wanting, needing, more. For a man of few words, his words are sweet and tender that she replays over and over in her head when they are apart. Not to mention how passionate and loving his kisses are against her lips that leaves her breathless each time.
Sakura lifts her head high with pride and walks with confidence not letting their whispers get to her. People throw rocks at things that shine, she tells herself as she passes a group of gossiping women. And life makes love look hard, as she recalls all the lowest points of their relationship when they were they younger.
As she makes her way down the road, a figure appears behind her and takes her hand in theirs. Frustrated, Sakura rolls her eyes thinking it's an admirer and as she turns her head towards them with an irritated look on her face, it quickly melts as her eyes grow wide with shock.
Sasuke stands beside her, wearing a playful smirk on his face. Sakura brightly smiles at him and looks away at the ground, embarrassed, as he laces his fingers with hers, giving it a quick squeeze.
Sakura had not expected that from him since he's not fond of public display of emotions. Sakura gasps as Sasuke leans down towards her and plants a quick kiss on her cheek that leaves her speechless. She delicately covers her cheek with her hand and her mouth is left agape. Sasuke chuckles at her reaction and lovingly presses a long and sweet kiss on her forehead for all to see.
Sakura's eyes widen when she feels his soft lips against her forehead. She closes her eyes, savouring the moment as the whispers of the citizens around her quickly disappear as she melts into his kiss. It feels as if it is only them alone on the street when it isn't. He pulls back and continues along the path with her by his side, hand in hand.
She glances up at him and then at their interlocked hands and smiles warmly to herself. Though his hands are rough from the years of ruthless training, they are where hers belong. She looks back up at him, and finds that he's staring at her; the dark of his eyes drinking her in. A light blush creeps its way on to the apples of her cheeks which causes him to smile briefly.
"I love you," she mouths to him. His mismatched eyes widen with shock as his smile falters. Even though he's heard those three words from her before in the past, it still catches him off guard each time.
"I do, too," he mouths back at her with a heartwarming smirk, which causes her heart to beat rapidly in her chest. A smile dances across her face as her eyes stay locked with his.
The stakes are high, the water's rough, but this love is ours.
