Idiots don't catch colds
a/n: Suddenly, inspiration rose. Enjoy!
Nami studied the face of her captain quietly. He looked calm and relaxed, eyes closed and a smile that hinted that he was having a pleasant dream. A small trickle of drool that hang from his chin indicated that he was most likely dreaming of food.
Nami smiled. Her captain was indeed a peculiar man. Carefree and fun loving most of the time, almost to a point of annoyance. But she trusted him, possibly more than anyone she had ever trusted before. She knew that when it really mattered, Luffy would be serious. He wouldn't let anything happen to her, or anyone else in the crew for that matter.
She was alone on the boat with Luffy. They were docked near a deserted beach on a small island, and she had sent the rest of the crew to a small village on the base of a hill to pick up supplies. Luffy would have gone too, but he had managed to catch a nasty cold, rendering him practicably useless.
Nami snickered. "Idiots don't catch colds..."
He had without a doubt proven the old saying wrong.
Suddenly, Luffy stirred in his sleep. His smile had turned into a grimace of utter horror, and he was murmuring and turning. Nami could not make out what he was trying to say, but he started stirring worse and worse, the murmuring growing louder and louder until suddenly...
"Nami!" he whispered it softly, but she could make out the terror in his voice. Frowning, she stroked his forehead gently. He blinked at her, focusing his eyes slowly, as if not believing what he was seeing. Slowly a look of relief spread across his face, replacing the horror.
"Thank you!" he exclaimed, and before she knew what was going on, he had wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into bed.
"Thank you," he murmured this time, softly into her ear. He held her there for a while, tightly, as if not wanting to let her go, ever, rubbing his chin against hers slowly.
"Were you having a bad dream?" Nami said softly, almost whispering. She knew the answer, of course, why else would he have reacted this way?
He only nodded. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, and could feel him doing the same. Carefully, she wrapped her arms around him , not knowing if it was for his comfort or just because she wanted to. Her head rested on his chest and she could hear his heart beating slowly, slowly.
His strawhat hung forgotten by the door, and the stool she had been sitting on was lying on the floor.
The crew wouldn't be back for hours.
