A/N okay so I know that this is not the most original idea but I really want to see if I can put my own spin on it. Please read and review so I know whether to keep going or not I hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer: I do not own the Divergent world, the incredible Veronica Roth does!

I tap my foot lightly to a non-existent beat as I wait for this year's new set of Dauntless initiates. I can still remember my own Choosing Ceremony. I visualise the look of outrage on my sadistic father's face as I shed my blood onto the Dauntless sector. Everyone seemed so shocked that Tobias Eaton, a well-known political leader's son, was the first to transfer that year. Yeah well, I think to myself defiantly, I am no longer Tobias – I am Four.

I am broken out of my reverie by Lauren, a fellow Dauntless member, ''who do you think will be the first to jump this year?''

I shrug, ''probably an Erudite kid like usual''

We wait in silence until we hear Max's voice instructing the initiates on what to do.

''Several stories below us is the members' entrance to our compound'' Max shouts out, ''If you can't muster the will to jump off, you don't belong here. Our initiates have the privilege of going first''

I hear gasps and whispers. They don't seem a very promising bunch if they get scared at the first thing they are told to do. What a pity, I was almost looking forward to this year's training.

''Are you ready?'' Lauren whispers.

I nod my head as I notice the first initiate getting ready to jump.

A sudden whoosh of air engulfs me as I hear a loud thump. That's odd, the person didn't even scream. They must be a Dauntless born. I look to find it is a girl wearing grey clothes. Abnegation. And she is actually laughing. I hold out my hand to help her get off the net. She has hypnotising eyes that sparkle with determination. I feel myself somehow drawn to her.

''Thank you'' she says to me a little quieter than I anticipated.

''Can't believe it'' Lauren says snobbishly, ''A Stiff, the first to jump? Unheard of''

Lauren never has a problem with speaking her mind, she was a Candor transfer.

''There's a reason why she left them, Lauren'' I murmur to her, ''What's your name?''

''Um. . .'' she hesitates.

She must want to separate herself from her old Abnegation life, I get it. I faintly smile at her, ''Think about it – you don't get to pick again''

''Tris'' she says firmly.

I like it, simple yet unusual – sort of like her.

''Tris'' Lauren repeats, grinning, ''Make the announcement, Four''

''First jumper – Tris!'' I shout out to the watching initiates.

They yell and cheer as another girl jumps into the net, screaming at the top of her lungs.

''Welcome to Dauntless'' I say to Tris as I set my hand on her back.
