Footprints in the Sand

Darien stepped out of his yellow mustang, looking very sharp in his tuxedo. He walked up to the front door and knocked.

Mina opened the front door, "Come in. Serena will be just another minute."

Darien stepped in and glanced down for only a moment, but when he looked up, he saw Serena standing at the top of the stairs. She was wearing a flowy light-blue, off-the-shoulder, empire-waist dress.

Darien's breath was taken away. As Serena came down the stairs he remembered the dozen white roses in his right hand. When she reached the base of the stairs, he said, "These are for you, darling."

"They're beautiful. Thank you," she replied. "Mina, will you put these in water for me?"

"Of course," Mina spoke getting off the couch.

"We need to be going if going to make our reservations," Darien informed.

"Alright, I'll get my coat and purse," Serena replied. Both then said their goodbyes to Mina and went off to dinner.

~*~*~*~*~

Darien and Serena had a wonderful time at dinner, the decided to go walk along the beach under the full moon.

They strolled hand in hand and shoes in tow. After walking for about five minutes, Darien stopped. He pulled something from his pocket, got down on one knee, and took Serena's hands in his own, "I've known you for many years now, and I've grown to love you. Because of you, I want to be a better person, and I am. Tonight I kneel before you, asking you, will you marry me?"

Serena was in shock; she wasn't expecting this at all. Tears started to stream down her face and she knelt with him, "Yes Darien. I will marry you."

That night was the beginning of their life together. That night they left footprints in the sand.
