Title: Goodness of Our Hearts

Author: ThrashMetalQueen

Summary: You can't trust anyone anymore in Los Angeles. But all Sarah was trying to do was offer her some food...so Grace excepted.

Most kids aren't thankful for what they have. A nice warm bed, a roof over their head, fresh clothes to wear; the works. Grace would do anything for gifts like that. But her dreams of having those things were just dreams and nothing more. Sad, yes, but that was her life. And Grace had to accepted it. That's what she had to deal with on a daily basis. She was an orphan of the city of angels and homeless because of it. She had to sleep in the streets, her clothes had holes in them and they were filthy and she ahd the night sky as her roof.

Grace sat there in the alley as a slender brunette woman came walking up to her, stopping as she saw her there.

"Got a name?" the woman asked.

What was it any of her business? Grace was hesitant at first, but then she told her.

"Grace," she answered her, almost too quickly. "So what?"

The woman sat next to her, seeing a piece of paper that Grace had. It was full of that familiar, unwanted white powder. She took it away and crumpled it up in her hand. With a look of disgust, she threw it away with the rest of the litter in the streets.

"Grace, maybe you would like to get a cup of coffee, and a little bit of food?" she offered her.

What was the catch? Grace asked herself that question inside her mind. Did this woman expect anything out of her? After all, no one in this city just offers things like this out of the goodness of their heart.

"What d'you want?" Grace demanded, slightly annoyed.

The older female didn't take offense; she merely shook her head slightly. "Nothing."

"I have to at work in an hour, so don't rush yourself, okay?" the woman told her standing in line inside of the small resturant. Grace stood by her side.

"Okay." Grace smiled. "What's your name again?"

"Sarah."

"Thank you...Sarah."

Most people in this city didn't offer things like this out of the goodness of their heart, but she did. And Grace couldn't be more grateful.
