::Make Up::

Janis leaned against the tree, feeling the knobby, rough texture through her shirt. She sank to the ground and stretched her legs out in front of her. She had just let her head roll back and closed her eyes when she felt someone approaching her from behind. The steps were too self-assured for Cady and too light for Damien. Before she even opened her eyes, she knew who it was.

"Someone sitting here?" Regina asked.

"Yeah, me," she answered, and stood up. They looked at each other a little bit warily, wondering what the other was thinking. Regina suddenly relaxed, the old, familiar half-grin playing on her face.

"Stop it," she said. "We've known each other for too long to be like this."

"Be like what?" Janis challenged.

"I don't know. This is retarded; you're acting like you don't even know me."

"I wonder why that is? Maybe because I haven't talked to you since eighth grade," Janis said, but she relaxed as well. Regina was right; they've known each other for too long to be uptight around each other for long.

"Oh my god, that was so retarded, I can't believe you're still holding onto it," Regina said.

"I can't believe you're still using my choreography for the holiday dance," Janis said, grinning slightly. Regina rolled her eyes.

"Shut up," she said, hitting her old friend on the shoulder.

"Aren't you scared of being seen talking to a lesbian?" Janis said, smirking. Regina sat down and leaned against the tree.

"Nah," she said. "And not just because I know you aren't." Janis sat down too.

"So now what?" she asked.

"Now what, what?" Regina said. "Would it kill you for us to go back to the way we were?"

"Maybe not kill. Grotesquely maim."

"That's gross. Just like that skirt," Regina said, picking at Janis' many layered, black skirt with pinched fingers, as though holding a rat.

"Although I say, the whole look is an improvement from that weird shaved head thing you did in ninth grade."

"Shit, it took forever for the hair to grow out again," Janis said, laughing.

"I wanted to say sorry for that," Regina admitted, still staring at her fingers that were absently plucking at Janis' skirt. "But I couldn't because I'm…"

"A superficial bitch?" Janis supplied.

"Yeah," Regina said, laughing. "Which sucked since I was better friends with you than I'll ever be with Gretchen or Karen? Or Cady." Regina gave Janis a sidelong glance.

"So what'd you say," Regina said. "Are you willing to be friends with a superficial bitch again?" Janis cocked her head and regarded her old friend.

"Are you willing to be friends with an ex-dyke, art freak?" Regina smiled.

"Yeah? If that's what it takes, sure." Janis felt her lips curve into a grin.

"Well then I guess I'm okay with it too." They saw Cady approaching them, a puzzled expression already on her face.

"Hey guys," she said.

"Hey," they said, simultaneously, just like how they used to.
