" Put the knife down Charlie, I don't want to have to hurt you!" Chief Masterson barked as he gripped his gun tighter and focused in for a clear shot. Calmly and with her eyes only on Charlie, Tess Masterson walked forward.
"Stay the fuck back!" Charlie screamed enraged. Tess froze in place. His outburst startled her though it didn't stop her from continuing.
"Please Charlie...I know you don't wanna hear from me..." Charlie dug his fingers into Jo's neck as he retreated with her further into the corner.
" Look I don't give a shit what you have to say, you're not my mom!" Tess shook her head as tears glistened in her eyes.
" But I am Charlie, and I'm sorry for hurting you the way I did...but please don't hurt your sister Jo." Lacey turned to Danny eyes wide in fear and surprise . The room was quiet and tense as Danny spoke up.
" How can you be Charlie's mom?" All eyes except Charlie's turned toward Tess. She lowered her head and let out a deep sigh. Her shoulders began to heave as she fought to hold back tears.
" I was young and I was in love...but most of all I was stupid Charlie. I was so scared when I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't tell my parents they would've made me ...or send me away." Tess's voiced cracked as she struggled to lock eyes with Charlie through her sobs.
" But I couldn't do that, and as time went on I was more and more attached and I couldn't stay in town with a baby out of nowhere...so the next best option for a better life for you was adoption. I'm sorry." Charlie's rage filled eyes were dry, his clear look of animosity at the woman who birthed him apparent and clear to all.
"Yeah some better life I had mom, you abandoned me. You don't know the shit I dealt with, you didn't even care enough to find out how I was doing. So don't give me that fake sorry shit you don't care, you never did." Tess stood silent but shook her head as she wiped her tears.
"But you will care now that I have your precious little angel. Isn't that right mom? You care what happens to her right?" Tess took a few more steps forward,
" Actually I care about you both, I've lived my life full of regret and pain Charlie but you don't have to please...let Jo go and we can work this out as a family. " Her pleas were met with silence. Surprisingly it was Jo who broke the silence,
" Whose Charlie's dad mom?" Charlie immediately pressed the knife deeper into her throat, causing Chief Masterson to cock his gun back. Instead of replying to her daughter, Tess Masterson turned her back and for the first time faced her husband.
" I'm so sorry, I never meant to hurt you like this." Kyle never took his eyes off Charlie.
" Vikram Desai is Charlie's father." A collective gasp went about the room as Danny lunged forward right as the loud blast of the gun went off and they were enclosed in black.
