"Papa!" a six year old Hamish Watson-Holmes came running into the room.
"What is it Hamish?" Sherlock asked not bothering to look up at his son. He was currently looking at a piece of evidence from a case underneath a microscope. He sighed when he felt small hands tug on his sleeves. He looked down at is his son. "Yes?"
Hamish was holding his pirate hat hopefully, "Daddy's at work today and I was wondering if you'd play pirate with me, like we did last time."
"I'm in the middle of a case Hamish, I'm very busy." Sherlock went back to looking at the evidence. "You're dad will be home in a few hours."
"Please Papa!" Hamish begged, "I would wait until daddy got home but you play the better pirate."
Sherlock smiled, "Alright...I'll play pirates with you."
"Great!" Hamish jumped up and placed the hat on his father's head, "You can be the captain this time!" He laughed and ran into the living room. Sherlock stood and followed his son, still smiling.
John came home tired from his long day at the clinic. Opening the door to the flat he had expected Hamish to come running to greet him. When that didn't happened he got a little worried. It was quiet in the flat and that was more worrying. That usually meant Hamish was sick or Sherlock was in one of his moods.
What he found instead made him smile. Sherlock and Hamish were curled up on the couch asleep. Hamish's pirate hat was sat haphazardly on top of Sherlock's dark curls. Hamish was curled into Sherlock's side, his little toy sword next to him, and Sherlock's arm around his shoulders.
John smiled and took out his phone, snapping a picture, before going over and gently shaking the two awake. "Daddy!" Hamish cried happily, jumping up and giving John a hug.
"Hello John," Sherlock yawned, he stood and kissed John on the cheek.
"Papa and I played pirates again today!" Hamish announced.
"Did you now? Have fun?" John asked.
"Yes! We had so much fun!" The six year old hugged Sherlock around the waist, "Didn't we Papa?"
Sherlock smiled, taking off the hat and placing it on Hamish's head, "Of course we did."
Hamish grinned and ran off to find something to play with.
"Did he have to drag you away from that microscope or did you go willingly?" John aske jokingly.
"He asked and then told me that I played pirates better than you did, when I told him I was busy." Sherlock explained.
John laughed, "He's figured out how to get you to do what he wants." Sherlock wouldn't admit it but he didn't mind that Hamish had him wrapped around his little finger just like everyone else that knew the boy.
John and Sherlock then sat down on the couch together enjoying each other's company for a few minutes before Hamish came back in the room saying, "I'm hungry."
John smiled and got up to cook dinner for his family. They weren't a normal family but they were a family and they love each other, though they don't really say it and one wouldn't ever admit.
