A/N: Gah… I haven't written something that isn't original stuff in like… a while. Worst part? It's a little drabble. Grrr…

On the bright side, I've decided to try writing Hetalia. I probably can't do a lot of fic since I'm only in high school history classes (AP or not, it's still only high school and I'm JUST getting into WWI)

"Germany, you'll never leave me right?"

The blond turned to the brunet at the door and blinked a few times at the question. The brown eyes of the other were actually open and were downcast. He held a painting of some sort in his hand, but it was turned away so Germany couldn't see it. To say he was shocked… was a little bit of an understatement. "I may not see you as much, but I won't leave. We… uh… made a promise remember?"

Italy just nodded and sighed. "I guess… but I've had others break promises before." He smiled sadly and looked at the painting. "A long time ago actually…though I guess not that long for us Nations right?" He looked up to the German and tried to smile a little brighter, but couldn't seem to.

Germany did know what to say to the obviously sadden Italian. "Do you… want to talk about it?"

Italy shrugged. "I don't know." He brought to painting in front of himself and walked over to where Germany was sitting. "I haven't seen someone that promised they'd come back to me. I suppose I miss them very much, even now. Have… you ever had anyone leave you only to never return?"

Germany wasn't sure how to answer. He thought for a few moments "I don't really know," he answered truthfully. "Though for some reason I feel like… I've left someone. I haven't really thought about it before so…" He had a slightly troubled look on his face.

Italy blinked and tilted his head. "Ve~ I didn't mean to bring up any bad memories—"

The taller man shook his head. "No, no that's not it." He looked to the painting clutched in Italy's hands. "May I see that?"

Italy looked down briefly at the painting and nodded. He handed it to Germany. On it was a little kid dressed in a maid's outfit. If Germany didn't see the resemblance between Italy and the kid, little curl included, he would've thought it was a little girl. He raised his eyebrows, unsure of what to say. He looked to Italy, who shrugged.

"Austria mistook me for a girl… ahaha…"

Germany looked back down at the painting, his face turned thoughtful. "I just… don't really know if the memories are bad or not. For some reason," he smiled at the picture, "I don't think it was a bad memory."

Italy looked at Germany, who was still staring at the painting. "I'm glad," he said, a smile of knowing on his face.

A/N: Shut up. I know that people play with HRE-as-Germany fic a lot. But… I couldn't resist. I mean it didn't fully say it and since a lot of people will ignore this note anyway, you can think of it as just a sympathy thing. I don't really know if Holy Roman Empire is Germany or not as it's up to Hidekaz Himaruya (I had to look up the artist because I fail and don't know how to spell).

Either way, did anyone else know HRE thought Chibitalia was a girl? I didn't know until I read the comics (no, I can't read Japanese. There are English versions). The anime wasn't very clear about it (until the episode with Italy's voice change anyway). So… yeah. Pointless A/N over.
