- When you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you, you're gonna believe them.

Fifteen by Taylor Swift

I'm not sure whether Ginny was sixteen when her and Dean were going out or not, and I have a sneaking suspicion she was, so please just use your imagination, hehe :)

Despite the fact that Ginny had not been very happy when Hermione told her to date other guys in hopes of helping her get over Harry, she did actually take her advice to heart. That's why only a few weeks later it was a well-known fact that Ginny Weasley was going out with Dean Thomas. Hermione observed quietly, as she always did. She watched as Ginny's bright smile returned, and although she was happy for her friend, she couldn't help but wonder if she was truly happy. She kept her thoughts to herself though, and didn't mention it unless Ginny did, which was unfortunately a lot.

"Why the hell is Ron going out with that thing?" Ginny snapped, glaring as her brother walked past, practically attached to his girlfriend, Lavender Brown. Ginny had figured out Hermione's feelings for her brother a long time ago, and unlike Hermione, was much more open about her opinions. "I'm glad Dean didn't do that to make me jealous."

Lavender had already put Hermione in a bad mood, and Ginny's comment didn't improve it. She glared at the younger girl, diverting her gaze from Ron and Lavender.

"That," she snapped. "Is because he didn't need to because you practically flung yourself at him and -" She was about to tell her that Ron wasn't trying to make her jealous, but she cut herself off, her eyes growing wide as she realized what she had just said. She stopped walking, turning to face Ginny apologetically.

"Is that what you think?" Ginny all but yelled back. Her temper matched her fiery hair, and she glared threateningly at her friend, almost daring her to reply. "Dean loves me, okay? He loves me!"

Hermione was about to ask how that had anything to do with it, but bit her tongue, realizing that she had done enough damage for the day. Instead her thoughts were on Harry. If there was one thing Hermione would have said she was sure of, it would have been that Ginny and Harry would get their happily ever after. Yes, she had been the one to tell Ginny to try get over Harry, but that was only because she didn't want Ginny to kill herself waiting for Harry to destroy Voldemort. There was no way Harry would even look at her until he did, and it didn't seem fair for Ginny to have to wait until he did. In Hermione's mind, it made sense that Ginny should have her chance to experience the love and heartbreak of being teenager.

"I didn't mean it like that," Hermione said truthfully. Sensing the Ginny's anger simmer, she added quietly, "Does he really love you?"

Ginny was caught between the urge to argue, or to just forgive Hermione for her words. She chose the latter, but promised herself she wouldn't back down so easily if it happened again.

"Of course he does," she said. "He told me so."

"Ginny," Hermione gapped at her, wondering how many girls Dean had charmed with those words before. "You're only fifteen."

"And you're wasting your life away, because of my git of a brother," Ginny retorted. She sighed. "Look, he loves me. That's all I need right now."

"Do you love him?"

"Does that matter?" she cried. "You can learn to love someone..." Even she didn't believe the words as they left her mouth. She knew that deep down, she loved Harry, no matter how hard she tried to conceal it. Still, she couldn't help but hope that she would fall for Dean. He was a great guy, and treated her right. And unlike Harry, he loved her. He loved her, and that's all that mattered.

He loved her.
