Prompt #13: If the facts don't fit the theory, change the facts." - Albert Einstein
Rating: PG-13

Pairing/Character: Diego/Sid
Summary: "Or maybe, the two's odd relationship that defied nature itself could be caused by something else. Something more. And this Sloth for one liked that idea."
Timeline: After the second movie.
He had a theory, like any great and intelligent Sloth, only…the facts didn't quite fit together in the strange puzzle of it all. And it was a puzzle, to Sid anyway.
The saber-tooth he grew to love as a very dear friend meant more to the Sloth than even that. Sid loved the way he protected him, and loved the way he spoke up to keep the mini-Sloths from stealing him away, and he loved the way the saber kept on eye on him so he wouldn't get into any trouble. He even loved the way big, prehistoric cat teased him with growls and chased him across the snowy fields for their "exercise".
Everyone in their strange little herd would agree that the two were spending more time together. But that could have been because Manny and Eli needed their alone time, and Crash and Eddy…well, neither Diego or Sid really liked hanging out with those two for long. Especially when the two Possums managed to dig up pint-sized rocks. Sid shook his head.
Or maybe, the two's odd relationship that defied nature itself could be caused by something else. Something more. And this Sloth for one liked that idea.
…But did Diego?
Did he even notice, or even really care all that much? The theories Sid was coming up with in his "highly-evolved brain" began to seep into his dreams, causing him and the sometimes over-bearing saber-tooth to cross normal boundaries. The hair on his tail stood on end at the images his ideas let him have.
No one knew about any of his thoughts on his and Diego's alone time. But that kitty would be the last one Sid told. He knew he annoyed Diego, and he knew he just seemed like a weak member of their little family – one who always found some way to cause a problem. But Sid also knew now that he was wanted. It couldn't be in that way though…it has never been in that way so why would it start now? With a saber no less?
So Sid had a theory that caused him to scratch his head at night and ponder as he slid across ice. Because the facts just didn't match this theory in his heart.
"No…" Sid mumbled to himself. "I am Lord of the Flame. If anyone can bend the fabric of time and space, and if anyone can seduce a certain Lord of Touch Me and You're Dead…it would be me!" He smiled brightly to himself, for if anyone could change the facts he could.
And as he stalked off, unsure of how far he would get with his plans, unsure of how much he may end up hurting on the inside, Sid the Sloth didn't catch the green eyes noticing him from behind the snowy hill. A chuckle escaped from behind two big teeth, and Diego shook his head.
"It's about time, Sloth…"
