She Told Me Once

I know a girl,

Who gave her heart away,

And when it ended,

She embraced her pain.

I watched her pain;

I listened to her cry.

Every day was worse

Than the one before.

She was faithful

Even when he was gone.

She pushed him away,

Breaking her own heart.

She told me once:

Remember that you're not alone;

When the rain pours down

And freezes your soul,

When the sun goes dark

And you feel so cold,

Remember that you're not alone.

I ask her once-

The reason she hung on

Just waiting for him,

When all hope was gone,

And she told me-

That she loved him so much

To love another

Would seem to be wrong.

So she struggled

And cried every day;

She prayed to her God

For strength to go on.

She told me once:

Remember that you're not alone;

When the rain pours down

And freezes your soul,

When the sun goes dark

And you feel so cold,

Remember that you're not alone

I love that girl,

Although she can't love me,

And I dream of her,

When I am asleep.

I think of her

And all those tears she's cried

Over this one man

Who couldn't forgive.

I told her so;

When I did, she turned cold.

She smiled a bit,

And I remembered-

She told me once:

Remember that you're not alone;

When the rain pours down

And freezes your soul,

When the sun goes dark

And you feel so cold,

Remember that you're not alone.

Perhaps she is

A prize I can not have,

Or a gift to me

That I can't unwrap.

She's just a friend,

Who longs for one she's missed.

She refuses to

Taste another's kiss.

And now I know

The pain that he's caused her

Is a grave disease

That's been passed to me.

She told me once:

Remember that you're not alone;

When the rain pours down

And freezes your soul,

When the sun goes dark

And you feel so cold,

Remember that you're not alone
