On the Road
He had loved her. Yes that was it, the reason why he agreed to embark on this crazy quest to save a woman who had went headfirst into a force she could barely understand. The woman who had went out to save her people at risk of Traitor's Hill. That was why he was going back to convince her otherwise.
Oh gods, if only he could have realized it earlier then things would have been a lot more simple for him.
Every day he pursued her, he thought about her. He saw her shy smile when she dared to slip out of the mask she wore. He saw the gentle way she treated the refugees and the determined look in her hazel eyes when dealing with them. He may have had the attention of many female followers who might gladly throw their dresses over their heads for him. Yet he wanted only her, Keladry, the woman with the subtle beauty who made him stop in his tracks and stare.
He should have told her. He should have told her how thoughts of her made him melt, how deep his feelings ran. Oh, he should have told her and then he would have kissed her and told her how much he loved her.
As ridiculous as his fantasies were, sometimes he could imagine it. Despite how stupid they were, sometimes they were the only thing that kept him going.
In those fantasies, he would ride to New Haven on some random impulse. An impulse sent out by the back of his mind that said, ''Tell her while you can. Tell her while you can'', because somehow he would know in the back of his mind that soon he wouldn't be able to tell her at all.
She would be working with the refugees and he would come up to her. In some of those fantasies, she would rush into his arms and in others she would simply greet him and give him one of those beautiful smiles that she had. And then… Well then the magic would happen.
He would say the speech that he had made himself memorize. ''Kel,'' he said. ''Kel, you are the most amazing woman that I have ever met. I love you and I have loved for so long. Do you love me back?''
''Yes,'' she would say with a shy smile. ''Oh Dom, I have waited so long to tell you too. Even when I was with Cleon… I always thought about you.''
And then…Then his lips would land her on hers, ever so softly at first but then their kiss grow in intensity. Finally, they would have to draw back for air and the look that they showed each other would tell it all.
And that would be history from there on.
''Dom, we have to get going,'' Wolset said, breaking him from his reverie.
He nodded, clearing his fantasies from his mind. Yes, he had to get her back; that was the important thing.
