Artegor was never the simple sort. He'd always make everything complicated; from his outfit to his relationships. And Aarch. Especially Aarch.

Artegor fell for him immediately; he was so open, so understanding. Not to mention good looking.

But he never said anything. He practised alongside Aarch in the field, admiring his moves and skills. They were best friends; they talked about football mostly and their dreams of reaching the top and winning the Cup.

One time after a win against the Rykers, Artegor and Aarch celebrated with cheap wine that Aarch managed to stow away. Soon Artegor felt his shyness melt away and he wanted to admit his feelings in a simple way. He boldly kissed Aarch on the mouth. Aarch pulled away, staring at Artegor with his big baby blue eyes. In the morning he regretted it deeply. Aarch didn't talk to him properly for ages.

Artegor felt miserable. He was sure that Aarch despised him. In trying to be simple, he pushed away the person who meant the most to him. Artegor took long walks after training, deliberating his circumstance as he strolled along one of Akillian's winding paths. One day he walked and someone managed to spot him.

"Artegor!" It was Norata.

"Norata, what are you doing here?"

Norata raised his eyebrows as he walked over "I live just over there. Anyway, Aarch has been trying to get hold of you. I think he really wants to talk to you."

Artegor felt scared on the inside but maintained a cool demeanour. "Why?"

"How would I know? Look, just call him; his pacing is giving me a headache. See you." With that Norata walked off.

"Pacing?" Artegor thought. Aarch only paced when he was really troubled. Artegor turned round and went back to his shared room, hoping that Aarch would be inside.

"Artegor! I'm glad you're here, I wanted to talk." Aarch said joyfully, patting the space next to him on the bed.

"Okay, what do you want to talk about?"

Aarch smirked. "You know what."

"You mean..." Artegor trailed away, regretting that kiss even more. "It was nothing, just a stupid moment, I was drunk, I was –"

Aarch cut him off with a kiss. After a while he broke away and said, "Can we go out to dinner?"

Artegor was too stunned to speak and just nodded his head.

"Excellent. Calla is really small and relaxed, you'd like that kind of atmosphere wouldn't you?"

Artegor nodded again. Aarch beamed. "Great. Listen, there's this new move I was thinking of trying out and the training room is empty. Do you want to come with me?"

"Definitely." Artegor said. Football was something that he could get his head around.

That private session was one of the best that Artegor ever did. Both of them worked well together and Aarch's new move proved to be effective.

Later the boys went to Calla for an enjoyable meal. They swapped stories and jokes and the atmosphere was really calm. Artegor felt at peace for the first time in weeks. Afterwards they went back to the bedroom and started to kiss. Then it got much more intimate. Aarch fell asleep in Artegor's arms and Artegor ran his fingers through Aarch's hair, admiring the texture.

He smiled to himself. Maybe being simple and straightforward wasn't as bad as he once thought.
