Getting inside wasn't the problem. Noriko still had the spare house key with her. The hard part was dealing with all the memories of those three days, and the fact she wouldn't see her family anymore. True, she would have Shuya alongside her, but it still made her swell up inside with tears of sadness.

Retrieving Nobu's old knife from her bedroom desk, she remembered in an instant where this all started. The day Kitano got stabbed. After all, THIS was the knife from the attack. SHE had been the one who hid the knife from him. What difference would changing that incident make though, she thought. The class would have still been chosen for the program. Nobu would still have been killed. She'd have still gone through all that happened. The pain. The death. The fear. She could still hear the gunshots and the screaming in her head: Things she wouldn't forget for the rest of her life. There was nothing she could do that would change the past; no matter how hard she wanted to try. This really, was time to move on, and she knew it.

As Noriko locked up behind her, and left her family home for the last time to meet up with Shuya again, she started silently crying for her own family, which like both themselves, Shuya, and all their lost friends, had been the victims of a merciless regime. She also remembered what Kawada had said to her back on the island, and continued to shed more tears alone in the darkness, as she knew he was certainly right:
