Just a small Dabble inspired by a recent purchase of mine. I hope you enjoy it and Happy Holidays!
Snow fell in clumps on the ground off dull shinned black boots as they were stomped on the ground. The red coat was pulled tighter around the frame of his body, as though being indoors was colder than being outdoors, which certainly wasn't the case here. In fact the building he was currently in was very well heated and he shivered off the last of the lingering cold before releasing his jacket to flap open as he walked purposefully with heavy steps. No one spared him a glance, and that was fine by him, he was too deep in thought anyways.
If it wasn't because he had to turn in this report he would be with his usual companion. As it were, the report needed to be turned in, least he have to listen to another lecture from the famed Colonel Bastard, and thus Al was out shopping for Winry's Christmas present. Typically Ed and Al went in together on her present, and she was rather easy to buy for. Tools, automail pieces, you couldn't go wrong. He knew that was the direction Al was going to go in too. This time however, and he wondered what in the world possessed him to suggest the idea, they were going to each get Winry a different gift. He knew he could go the same route as Al and Winry would be pleased but he wanted to do something different, something…unique, special perhaps? He wasn't sure, and thus his dilemma.
Without even having to focus Ed's feet had taken where he needed to go and with little heed he opened the familiar doors and by habit made his footsteps even louder, announcing his presences to those in the office. Which consisted of all but Mustang, that fucking Bastard, if Ed was going to be here then he should have the decency to be here as well. He seething a bit at this, because it meant that he was stuck waiting for him.
"Edward." His name being called out drew his attention and he saw Lieutenant Hawkeye looking directly at him. He walked over to her desk wondering what she wanted. "The Colonel is in a meeting at the moment. He said as long as report is readable you can leave it with me." She held her hand out expectantly. A scent hung around her, different than he had smelled before. Perfume? Did Hawkeye always wear perfume? He had smelled it stores before and had never enjoyed the smell. He handed her the report and her brown eyes scanned it to make sure it was, in fact, readable, giving Ed time to consider this fragrance.
It didn't have that sharp, brutally sweet smell like the ones he had come across in the store that felt like they were violently assaulting his nose. This scent was warm, heavy in a comforting way, like the way fresh baked ginger bread cookies did but without the ginger scent. It was enjoyable, he really liked it. Maybe that's what he should get Winry for Christmas! Al would never think of getting her perfume! It was perfect, and Riza would know exactly where to get it too so he wouldn't have to go shopping around for the elusive gift.
"Where did you get your perfume?" He asked suddenly and Riza's brown eyes looked up at him. She held his stare for a moment before looking back down at the paper she was scanning. "The widow's store, down by market street.' She answered. "It's made by K. Hall designs the fragrance is called Milk." She told him.
Milk…His face scrunched up, that scent was called Milk? Milk! Who the fucking hell wants to smell like Milk? He didn't even wait for Hawkeye to finish looking at the report instead marching out with heavy steps and slamming the door behind him. MILK!
