The last few days Zoe had been rushed off her feet, as acting clinical lead she had the fallout from Connie's arrest to deal with as well as the day to day running of the ED. Max had noticed that she was under increasing levels of stress and he believed that it was his job to bring back some light into her life.
It was half past seven in the morning and max rolled over to find the space beside him cold. He shivered. He then saw a little piece of paper on the bedside table.
'Morning. I've been called in early and didn't want to wake you. I'll see you at work, don't be late. SMxx'
Max read the note and lay back down. One of these days he thought. She's going to burn herself out. Then he had a thought, he needed to remind Zoe hat there was still more to life than work. He got out of bed and got ready for work but first there was something he had to do.
As he arrived at work the outside seemed to be deserted. Not a member of staff in sight. He walked into reception and was greeted by an angry Louise. She was overworked and exhausted. With Connie being arrested trust issues had arose and people were always seconded guessing each other. Max had still not forgiven lofty for his treatment of his sister and Robyn was fed up of the both of them. Max walked into the staff room and changed his top. He then went along to Zoe's office but there was no sign of her. Good he thought time to put my plan into action.
By the time Zoe had her first break it was pushing on for lunch time. She entered her office and collapsed into her chair. On the desk she noticed a heart shaped chocolate. She picked it up and underneath was a small piece of paper. She unfolded it.
'Because I love you'
She smiled to herself before eating the chocolate. She finished her coffee and stood up to leave when she glimpsed a trail of small chocolates leading out of her office and towards reception. She bent down to retrieve each of the chocolates. She ate the first few but after that proceeded to place them on top of the folder she was carrying.
The trail took her all around the ED and on the way she received many strange glances. The trail seemed to thin and then in front of her she spotted a bunch of chocolate roses. A smile formed on her lips. She took the flowers back to her office.
As she opened the door a familiar figure had taken up her chair.
"Something to do with you"
"maybe." Max stood up and moved towards Zoe, removing the chocolates from her and placing them down on the desk. His arms snaked around her and he pulled her close.
"So princess, what do you think? "
"I think, what the hell would I do without you?"
"Well I hope you'll never have to find out"
Max kissed Zoe and she fell into his arms. He kissed her forehead.
"Tonight we are going home and there will be no talk of work. It's just going to be you, me and all this chocolate."
"Okay but who says I'm sharing?"
"Well as they say sharing is caring"
"Huh. I'll see you later"
Max kissed Zoe one last time and left her office, he'd brought a smile back to her face. Mission complete.
