She hadn't had the time to react. She was no shinigami after all, and this was Kuchiki Byakuya she was dealing with. But this was so totally unexpected, so totally random, that even she, Izumi Konata, anime, manga, video-game, and randomness Otaku, was taken completely by surprise.

Because in the middle of Seireitei, outside of an empty bakery, Kuchiki Byakuya.....

She stood frozen for a moment, unable to move, and when she could, he pulled away, frowning directly behind her, and then smiled. Konata turned and her face immediately reddened when she saw Yui (Konata's cousin and also Abarai Renji's girlfriend), Renji Abarai (Byakuya's lieutenant), Kagami Hiiragi and Toshiro Hitsugaya(10th captain and Kagami's boyfriend), standing there in complete shock. Toshiro was holding an ice cream cone, but the scoop, as if on cue, dropped to the pavement with a loud squish, and Toshiro released the empty cone. Byakuya simply straightened his posture as Konata was once again paralyzed in shock and embarrassment. She resisted the urge to hide behind Byakuya's broad back as the aforementioned group stood there as if frozen by the Hyorinmaru at noon this day in Soul Society. Byakuya could only smile at the reaction,and everyone staring at the two already knew what would happen if they breathed a word to anyone about this. Renji could tell from experience, sakura petals slicing you into mincemeat by Senbonzakura was not fun.
"What?" Byakuya asked. " I was merely thinking like my lieutenant and the captain of the 10th for once. See you all later. Good evening, Kona-chan."
The group, plus Konata, stared dumbstruck as Byakuya took his leave, and after a long moment of deliberation, Toshiro decided to speak up, though the kid captain didn't get much out besides "Umm...." and Konata merely shook her head.
"Believe me. As to what just happened, I'm just as clueless as you are...."
