Joan sat in her bedroom, flipping through her picture album. Strange, but she felt nogalistic these days. She flipped through her mother, father and brothers. Joan's eyes fell on Kevin. Kevin without a wheelchair. It was hard these days with the ongoing lawsuit. It wasn't fair. Everyone felt tense, and it just brought back memories of the night of Kevin's accident. Memories that she didn't want to remember. "The night of endless tears."she thought to herself. None of her family wanted to remember that horrible night, but they were. All because of the Baker family.
Joan knew Kevin loved his life still, and he didn't complain nearly as much, but every so often, there was a look in his eyes, of the hardship of never being able to walk again. Joan smiled a sad smile. No matter what, he was still her goofy older brother who would always look after her.
Kevin wheeled himself in her room, not liking what had happened in the kitchen before.
"Hey Joan, what are you.." his voice trailed off as he saw a picture of himself. "What's up?" he said softly.
Joan looked at him. "Kev, I didn't mean to snap at you before. It's just that.. of course it wasn't your fault that you didn't take the keys from him. You tried, that was the best that you can do. I dont want you beating youself up over this. It wasn't your fault. He's an ass, and I hate him for doing this to you. We all hate him."
Kevin looked at his little sister, and simply teached out his arms. Joan went over to him and gave him a long hug.
"I love you Joan."
"Love you too, Kev." she smiled.
Kevin wheeled himself out of her room, shaking her head. No matter what, Joan would always be Joan, and the whole family loved her conditionally no matter what.
