Inspired by a speech given today by the reverend visiting our school. He was speaking about 'All Saints' day. Hope you enjoy it.
Saint
Is a Saint someone who loves you and prays for you even if you don't know it?
When Chloe Sullivan was young, she prayed for her mother and father. When her mother left, she prayed her mother would come home.
When her mother never came back, she stopped praying.
When she moved to Smallville and met Clark, she started praying again – that Clark would be her friend, that Clark would always be around to save her.
She also prayed that Clark wouldn't end up with Lana but she grew out of that.
Sometimes, she prayed for Lois.
When she found out about Clark's powers and his alien heritage, she began to worry more and pray more – pray that Clark didn't accidentally walk into another vat of Kryptonite, that he wouldn't get killed by a Zoner, that he could save the world and that eventually he would stop blaming himself for everything that went wrong.
When Clark found out she knew, she became his sidekick and then she prayed that she would be able to find whatever Clark needed, and that she would be able to help him. She also prayed that Clark would always be her hero – as well as the world's hero.
Twice, she prayed for Davis. That was before she found out that he was sent down to Earth as genetic matter with the mission of 'Kill Clark and blow up World'.
When she ran away with him, she prayed that this would save Clark – that for once, she would be the hero and not the sidekick. But soon, she started praying that Clark would save her from the monster, be her hero once again, survive Doomsdays attack.
She never prayed for Jimmy.
When she lost everyone – Lois, Jimmy and Clark – she stopped praying again.
She felt empty. She had no hero, no one to protect, no one to pray for. She thought that even if she started to pray again, she couldn't pray for Clark – after all, her hero would never have left her.
When she saw Oliver's GPS flashing on the large screens in the Watchtower, she went looking for him. She didn't find him, but she started praying again – hoping that Oliver would be okay, that Oliver could become a hero, maybe her hero.
She kept praying, deciding to push him into donning the green leather once again. When he finally redeemed himself, he came to the Watchtower, asking how she had done it, how she had managed to make him a hero again.
She smiled, and told him that she had prayed for him. When he asked why, she said that she needed him. Without a hero to pray for, to protect, she had nothing.
He kissed her.
She never stopped praying for Oliver.
