Background: This is based on the death of William (Envy) in the first anime. It was told that William died of mercury poisoning, but it was never specified how. Back before they knew mercury was poisonous, it was believed to be the key to immortality. So my take on the story was that William's parents (Hoehnhim and Dante) were too greedy to share the philosopher's stone power with their son so they gave him mercury to make him immortal instead. Now this is just one of the theories on his death, he could have just been fooling around in his father's lab and accidentally spilled mercury on himself. The true reason is unknown. This is just which theory I believe to be more realistic.
Mercury
He looked down at the oddities on the table,
The doohickeys and the vitals,
Spew across the top,
As if a monsoon had gone by.
And looking down,
And turned around,
He wondered why he was even here.
His father came in,
Face clean and prim,
Expression calm and clear.
He locked the door,
Not wanting anymore whispers.
For the villagers knew,
That inside this room there grew,
Oddities they could not describe.
He sat William down,
And took a look around,
Just checking to make sure.
The coast was clear,
So he got near,
And slipped William the vital.
It was warm,
The color only slightly darker than blood.
And in its container it sloshed around,
Moving to and fro.
He questioned his father,
And he answered his son with a coy smile,
"Drink up son. This will make you like us."
William uncorked the vital,
He lifted the liquid to his lips.
It squirmed in his mouth,
-Sour to the taste-
And slithered down his throat.
He cleared the glass,
All possible red gone along,
Mixing inside him.
He licked his lips,
All traces of the thick chemical were gone.
His father gave a smile,
Awaiting results;
For he did not know,
If it would be visible or not.
But his smile soon faded,
And he stood there in shock,
As his son struggled for breath.
William slumped over,
And took his last breath,
Immortality had come,
Tough and cruel.
And his father never forgot watching,
William's last breath.
