This is a story related to Divergent. It has NOTHING to do with Tris or Tobias, only a girl going through dauntless initiation.

Okay. So I'm Zoe Anajar. And yesterday I had my apptitude test. Results were as expected. Dauntless. My home faction is Erudite, but it was always obvious that I would be Dauntless. Ever since I was 8 years old I was too adventurous for Erudite. I wanted to see things for real life and not read about them. But I really loved my family. My 21 year old sister Esme, is a scientist for the Department of Anthropology. (Human studies) My parents are very proud of her. Then Rosetta is my younger sister - 6 - and she is all Erudite, but has a certain soft spot for Amity. (She is very kind.) My mom is an author and my father a biologist. (They are all around good people, but have large egos and hate to be embarrassed by anybody.) They have flaws, but they're my family. So as I heard my name called at the Choosing Ceremony I was in quite a pickle.

I took a deep breath and turned to give a warm smile to my dear ones. Only Esme and Rosetta smiled back. I felt strangely cold from my parents lack of kindness. (I mean, they're not Amity, but it can't hurt to smile.) Or can it? I thought to myself. Shaking my head to clear my mind, I took baby steps to the stone bowls. When I finally got there, Colby - the "name caller" in ways - shot me a patronizing look. I smirked at him, since I probably made him off schedule. But then the real fear came back. As my smirk melt into a horror struck spasm in my face, Colby softened his expression and gently placed the cool knife in my sweaty hand.

Breathing as evenly as I could manage, I slit my palm and looked at my two options. Here go's nothing. I closed my eyes and shoved my hand away from me. It wasn't until I heard what sounded like elephants stomping and monkeys screaming, that I knew I was done.

"Zoe Anajar. Dauntless."
