Summary: Humans don't live forever, and no one knows that better then Bumblebee.

Concepts Of Time

By Steph

Bumblebee always knew humans were vulnerable, fragile, easily hurt. Their weak soft bodies so prone to damage. How their skin would twinge a yellow, purple colour after a small impact, or how they would become sick after being infected by something so small. It was so illogical, their existence spanning out over the course of just a few decades before the very thing that kept them alive stopped it's racing beat as their existence faded away.

His charge was no exception to that rule and sometimes that was what scared Bumblebee the most. For as much Bumblebee hated to accept the fact, one day his human just like the rest of his kind, would eventually enter the folds of darkness and beyond, venturing to a place where the guardian as much as he wanted to could not follow.

Bumblebee did his best to keep Sam safe, happy and above all else, healthy. Doing little things like making sure he went to bed on time, eating healthy and exercising. Anything that would perhaps extend his beloved human's lifespan for even just one more day. Since finding Sam, Bumblebee's life had dramatically changed, not everything revolved around the constant subject of war, Sam had taught him there was more to life then just fighting. Sam had taught Bumblebee how to live. His charge was like a bright candle light in a vast sea of darkness but like a candle that beautiful light would one day go out.

Often when Sam returned home from school, Bumblebee would not fail to notice his heightened body temperature, or how he would sniffle his nose much more often then usual. Of course despite expressing concern Sam like the human he was would only smile and dismiss the cold as a small nuisance. Sam blissfully unaware of the scans that Bumblebee ran through the night. Lightly fanning through his bedroom window, checking, ensuring he was still there, safe and healthy.

Bumblebee did not want to think of a world without Sam, for that would be a world not worth living in. It was unavoidable, Sam was just one of many humans who would live no more then perhaps seventy or eighty years at best. Whilst Bumblebee was a Cybertroian based organism capable of living an infinite span of time, and that wasn't fair.

Bumblebee's processor just could not comprehend the thought. Why should Sam have to die, while he lived? Taking away his best friend What gave the universe that right? Bumblebee knew the answer, and the answer was the bitch known as time.

To some, time was not a physical entity, it just simply existed, and it was ready to take the one thing most dear to Bumblebee, leaving him alone in a world without his light. Because time had no single set of laws for every being in existance, it simply was there. Working away slowly taking countless lives into the worlds beyond. And when you could live near enough for forever, that simply was not fair.
