I know I said this last time, but I think Is my shortest 'fic, and it took me the least amount of time. Oh well, it was fun to write, and I hope it's fun to read! Enjoy.
Brightheart's Reflection
Brightheart was looking for herbs. Cinderpelt sent her out to get some more. As she walked along the edge of the lake, she stared into the water. At her own reflection. She still wasn't used to the way it looked. It still frightened her to see her scarred, torn face. She sighed, then softly sang,
"Look at me
I will never pass for a perfect mate," she said with a pang of sadness, thinking of how Cloudtail seemed to have abandoned her for Daisy,
"Or a perfect warrior," and she thought of how she had to stay with the elders until Cloudtail helped her train so she could still be a warrior,
"Can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?" and she thought of how she'd been helping Cinderpelt. She might like being a medicine cat…but Cinderpelt had an apprentice..
"Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself
I would break my clan's heart
"Who is that cat I see
Staring straight
Back at me?" she barely recognized herself as the apprentice she once was...
"Why is my reflection someone
I don't know?
Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am
Though I've tried" Brightheart wished she could change what happened, made it so she never had that encounter with the dog pack.
"When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"
Then, she turned away from the lake, and with a sigh began to pad back to camp, after grabbing the herbs, her jaws full.
