Carries on from where the last Zax scene left off. What if Zoe wasn't interrupted?

Loosely based around the song "Take Me Home" by Jess Glynne. Below lyrics in italics are not mine.

Would you take the wheel

If I lose control?

If I'm lying here

Will you take me home?

Could you take care of a broken soul?

Oh, will you hold me now?

Oh, will you take me home?

Oh, will you take me home?

Oh, will you take me home?

Oh, will you take me home?

Zoe gazed at her husband, desperately wanting to say something to him.

"Max..." She began.

"Yes?" He asked, a gentle gracing his face.

"I want to talk to you. How about I finish off here and I'll meet you outside in a few minutes?"

"At our old smoking spot?" He asked with a grin.

"... If you like." She asked, placing some files on the side of reception. "See you in a bit." She said, and with a wink, was gone.

"Robyn, I'll be a bit late to the pub." Max informed his sister.

"Why?" she frowned.

"Um, I need to speak to Jez about moving in, see when he can bring his stuff over to ours." He fibbed.

"Okay, I'll see you in a while." She smiled slightly, not quite believing her brother.

Max nodded and made his way outside.

Zoe got back to her office, got her coat on and placed her phone in her bag. She checked her makeup and gave her hair a quick brush.

She then made her way outside to meet Max.

He was leaning against the wall, a cigarette in his hand.

"Hello." The female greeted nervously, not quite knowing what to say.

He gave her a gentle smile. "Good evening." He responded, taking her in.

She was wearing a new fuchsia coloured dress, a blush pink coat that he knew was her favourite, topped off with a white leather handbag and a nude pair of Jimmy Choos.

"She looks beautiful." Max thought to himself.

"What?" she blushed, noticing him gazing at her.

"Um, nothing." He replied, his cheeks flushing. "What did you want to talk about, anyway?"

Zoe took a deep breath. "Us."

"What about us?"

"Well, ever since the day after Valentine's, you've practically ignored me. What did I do wrong, Max? I honestly think that we were going to talk things through, make a go of it... Obviously not." She burst out, the tears threatening to spill.

Max dipped his head. "I thought that you were flirting with someone else on that day... I'm sorry. "

"Max, I'd never do that. I was drunk on my hen night, I did it to hurt myself, not you. I'd never hurt you." She said, beginning to cry.

"Zoe." Max said, also close to tears.

He pulled her close and Zoe buried her head in his chest, letting out all of the pain and hurt of the last few months that she hadn't allowed to escape until now.

"Shh, I'm here. It's okay." Max rubbed her back and rested his head on top of her own, closing his eyes so he wouldn't burst into tears too.

"Do you still love me?" She asked, her voice no louder than a whisper.

"Yes." He whispered back.

Zoe lifted her head to look at him. "Really?" She gasped, the tears still flowing.

"Yes." He smiled, and kissed her.

Her fingers threaded through his hair, he slipped his arms around her waist, neither wanting to let go of the other ever again.

They broke apart to breathe, Zoe gazed at Max and rested her forehead against his. "I love you. So much."

"I love you too Zoe." He smiled, and cupped her face in his hands. "I missed you so much, sweetheart. You're so beautiful."

"Thank you." She whispered. "I've missed you too. Take me home, Max. To our home."

"Your wish is my command, my lady."

Zoe smiled and took her husband's hand, and together they went home, finally happy in the fact that they were back where they belonged- with each other, totally, utterly in love- home.
