(I have written this for one of my fave charries, Haldir. I know he doesn't die in the books, and no one knows if he had a lover. I like to think he had one. By the way, today, Monday the 15th, is Haldir Day. . If you want a tag to print out and wear on your shirt today and tomorrow, just pop me a note. )

Haldir.
How sweet that name is on my tongue.
How sharply that name slices deep into my already wounded heart.
Haldir.
Tears, falling, falling.
Like his blood fell, staining the walls of Helm's Deep.
He died to defend them; but it was in defense of them that my sorrow was born.
I still remember the last words he spoke to me.
"Do not fear for me, my love. I will return; you shall see. I will return, and together we will sail to the Undying Lands."
His last embrace, the sweetest of all.
And then he was gone, a smile on his lips, his gait sure and proud.
He never knew he was walking to his death.
The pain of his passing has not eased with time as they said it would; and though I am surrounded by friends and kin, I fear this wound will never heal.
Every day I can feel myself fading, fading, as my grief consumes me.
I know that, soon, there will be nothing left.
I know that, soon, I will be gone, and that I will not return.
But will I find my love there, in the emptiness of Death?
