Misa Returns
Part I
Amana Misa held the phone to her ear and began sobbing as she heard the news. Her beloved Light Yagami had died. The love of her life, the same man who killed the awful man who had brutally murdered her parents had died a painful death from a combination of gunshot wounds and his Shinigami, Ryuk, writing Light's name in his Death Note.
She cried out "No! Not my Light," and fell to the floor in deep sobs. Her tears staining her black nurse's dress she was to wear for a television appearance, she tried to hold her arms around herself in an attempt at an embrace. But nothing could take the place of Light's arms wrapped around her like her very own security blanket. The pain was too much to bear.
A blade to the wrist began to help ignore the emotional pain for the time being, but once her blood ran dry, the memory of her lost love came back to haunt her. Light's funeral was empty with the exception of his mother and Misa. Sayu, Light's sister, refused to attend the ceremony, knowing the kind of man Light really was, and that it was him who caused the death of their own father. However, Light's mother, being a mother, grieved for her son, no matter how evil he was. She and Misa held eachother, trying to comfort one another. Though nothing could ease the pain of seeing his face only on a picture, with no body to hold, no voice to hear.
Misa spent the oncoming months in a deep depression. She hated Near for what he did to her love. She didn't care that Light had been using her since the day they met. It never mattered to her, for even if his feelings for her were fake, she couldn't resist the way he held her. The way he kissed her so tenderly and breathed on her back as they slept. It was all she could need, even if it wasn't real to him.
For so long, it didn't seem as though Misa could ever forget her love. The depression eventually manifested itself into rage. Rage at Mikami for being so stupid and allowing Light to have been captured by Near. Rage at Matsuda for firing the shots that led to Light's death. And, most of all, rage at Near for backing Light into a corner, leaving him nowhere to run when everyone finally realized he was the real Kira.
One night, she was walking home late from a television commercial shoot. She was exhausted, and ready to get home and take a hot bath. She stopped into a convenience store to pick up a drink to take on her long walk home. Handing the money to the cashier, she noticed something from the corner of her eye. She could have sworn something dropped from the sky. Picking up her bottle of juice, she cautiously stepped out of the store and looked towards that spot she had seen only a moment before. She wasn't prepared for what she was about to see.
"What the…" Misa whispered as she stared at the sidewalk that was coated black by the night sky. The shadow of a book lay gently upon the concrete. Picking up the book, she read carefully the letters that spelled out "Death Note". Having had her memory of the previous Death Note erased, she screamed with fright as each memory flooded back to her. She felt as though she was having a seizure as her body shook with each memory of her previous notebooks. All the names of each person she killed, the memory of her capture, everything, just rushed back into her mind.
Misa fell to the ground, attempting to catch her breath. "I'm…I'm the second Kira. Light…was the real Kira."
She smiled when she realized what this meant. "Oh my gosh! This means I can…I can avenge my darling Light's death." She thought to herself. Immediately after that thought occurred to her, a familiar voice spoke to her from behind.
