A double-drabble is a story that is exactly 200 words long (not counting title and notes). This is my first double drabble.
Sports Night
Ten Minutes to Air
Isaac Jaffe rested on his cane before the anchordesk ten minutes prior to airtime, chatting convivially with his anchors.
"Back in the day," Isaac was saying –
"Back in the day?" Casey asked.
"It's what all the kids are saying," Isaac told him with a twinkle in his eye and the knowledge that he was inviting wisecracks. But then, that had been the whole point, to bring a little levity to the broadcast.
"I hate to tell you this, Isaac," Casey said good-naturedly, "but you haven't been a kid for a while now."
"Didn't anyone ever tell you to respect your elders?"
"But, you're not that 'eld', either," Dan quipped. "You're in that in-between space. In limbo, in the misty netherworld defying the laws of time and simple physics."
Casey took the ball from his partner and continued the manure spreading. "It's the place of poets and artists, of philosophers and shamen."
Isaac turned on his heel and started to leave, but called back with mock annoyance.
"Oh, bite me!"
The remark was so uncharacteristic of the man who so personified dignity itself that the entire studio burst out laughing.
"I'm busy tomorrow," Dan called out. "Would Thursday work for ya'?"
