"Sarek. What are you doing?" Amanda said curiously after entering his apartment and surveying the scene before her.

He was lying on his stomach in the living room, his eyes level with those of a big and elegant looking striped tabby cat that was lounging luxuriously and relaxed in front of him, its' eyes half closed. Sarek was looking at it with a curious and inquisitive, almost mesmerized expression.

She couldn't help but start smiling at the cuteness of the scene. When he didn't answer her after several moments, she asked again with slightly furrowed brows, but still amused "What are you doing with that cat?"

He turned his gaze away from the cat to look at her and replied. "His name is Moochie. He is Mrs. Cole's. She is the landlady here and she asked me if I could watch him while she is on vacation on the Canary islands. It's only for a week, I hope you don't mind."

"Oh, I see." Amanda answered, "Actually, I don't mind. I like cats. That doesn't explain why you are lying on the floor, though." She raised an eyebrow at him.

"He has been meowing at me for over an hour without any reason." Sarek said, with slight resignation in his tone. "He has enough food and water. He doesn't want to get petted. Doesn't want to play and his litter box is clean. I have no explanation for it. So..." Sarek turned his face back towards the cat. "Now I'm just returning the favour."

Amanda started laughing at that explanation. The thought of Sarek lying in front of a cat, meowing back and forth was just too much.

It was just then that she realized the slow rumbling rising from his chest that coalesced with the cats' purring.

"Sarek! Are you purring?", she asked incredulously.

"Yes.", he answered, matter-of-factly, without stopping the sound. "Moochie stopped meowing just before you came in and started purring instead. It seems to have a soothing effect on him when I repeat the action."

The cat did actually look like it was about to fall asleep. In any case, it was deeply relaxed.

For a moment, Amanda didn't know what to say. She was too flummoxed to string together two coherent words, so she settled on "How?"

He looked back at her with an amused expression and a slight smile on his lips.

"My species evolved from a form of feline creatures. To this day, we retain some characteristics that make us quite similar to your felines on Earth. You would be surprised what sort of sounds we can make with the simple action of letting air rolling through our lungs."

A mischievous grin tugged on the edges of her mouth as she replied.

"Ooooohhh. Looks like I will have to find out..."

With a graceful, not to say feline, movement Sarek stood up and before she knew it, he had lifted her off her feet easily. His eyes were sparkling with the same mischievousness as he planted a kiss on her lips and then saying "Do you want to find out now?"

She replied by giggling and kissing him while slowly moving them towards the bedroom.

Meanwhile, Moochie the cat was still lying in his comfortable position on the carpet in the living room, very relaxed and still purring. His eyes were half closed and directed towards the door where his temporary host had just vanished.

"Bipeds. So predictable."

A/N: Just a small little thing I came across while reading the interwebs. The conversation basically said: "My cat is meowing at me for hours without stopping." - "Start meowing back, see how he likes it." For some reason I found that very funny and relatable (my cat does it, too!), so I worked it into a little oneshot for you guys.

This is my first time writing, so please tell me what you think. Comment, reviews and constructive criticism is much appreciated. Thank you! :)
