"Harryo, wait up!" Caroline yelled as she ran to catch up with the short girl ahead of her. It was late, and way past curfew. Very few people were at the train station, and those who were belonged to the higher castes.
Harryo laughed and looked over her shoulder, "Hurry up or we'll miss the train!" She kept running through the train station and stopped abruptly as she bumped into someone. The man grabbed her arm to prevent her from falling over and Harryo pushed her hair out of her face to reveal a handsome blue eyed stranger.
"Princess Harryo?" The man asked confused. He immediately let go of her arm. "I am so sorry, I didn't mean to-"
"No no, you're okay it was my fault, I wasn't looking where I was going." Harryo said. She twirled her curly blonde hair around her index finger. "I don't suppose you have any plans?"
"I was just headed home."
"Perfect! How do you feel about karaoke?" Harryo asked, she looked up at him, her chocolate brown eyes pleading him to say yes.
"We do not have time for karaoke!" Caroline yelled panting as she caught up to the nineteen year old princess. "We need to get you home, it's already way past your curfew."
"Oh come on Caroline, just one round? I'll take all the blame I promise. Please?"
"I would hate to keep your royal highness up late." The man said.
"Another time then mister?"
"Charles Baker."
"Well, Mr. Charles Baker, meet me at this very spot tomorrow night at ten," Harryo said with a playful smile. "What do you say?"
"I say it sounds like a date." Charles replied.
Harryo squealed excitedly and clapped her hands as Caroline rolled her eyes.
"Harryo we have to go, now. We'll miss the train!" Caroline said.
"Right, right, my parents will kill me for being late again, see you tomorrow!" Harryo grabbed Caroline's hand and the pair ran throughout the train station. They arrived at their platform out of breath.
"We're gonna get in so much trouble." Caroline panted as they stepped onto the train.
"Don't worry, I'm sure our parents are asleep by now." Harryo said.
"Do you have any idea how late it is Harriet Jane Vivien Schreave?" King Brice asked angrily.
"I know I stayed out a bit later than we agreed but -"
"A bit later? More like four hours later! Not to mention all of these videos popping up online of you singing at a pub like some common five!"
"Wait people took videos?" Harryo asked excitedly. "Can I see them? Do I sound good? It took us weeks to get down the choreography!"
"This is the fifth time you've stayed out late this month." Brice said angrily. He pinched the bridge of his nose, he had to get his daughter under control. "Your mother and I have talked, you will be holding a Selection."
"Wait a what? Why me? Nic's the one who's going to take over."
"Your mother and I think it will teach you some responsibility. And your brother will be having a Selection. You'll share one." Brice explained.
"But-"
"No buts, the applications go out tomorrow. Speaking of going out you will not be going out again for the rest of the week." Brice said sternly. "You didn't even bring security, what if something happened to you?"
"What on earth could possibly happen to me? The people love me." Harryo as she flipped her curly blonde hair.
"Except for the ones who routinely attack our palace," Brice said exasperated as he ran a hand through his brown hair. "It's a small miracle that you made it back alive. Straight to bed."
"You really have to stop sneaking out so much, little sis." Nicholas said when his sister entered the hallway.
"You really need to stop ratting me out so much." Harryo countered. "Apparently we're sharing a Selection."
"What?"
"Oh you didn't hear? Daddy thinks that having a Selection is going to teach me responsibility." Harryo said.
"Lord help the boys who get picked," Nicholas said.
"What? I'm not that bad to date!" Harryo said then smacked her brother's arm.
"You've broken more hearts than I can count, Harryo, you're not exactly good at commitments."
"Well that's the beauty of the Selection," Harryo whispered in her brother's ear as she walked past him. "I get to date everyone at once."
Nicholas shook his head and followed after his sister, just to make sure she got to her room safe and sound.
"I know what you're doing Nicholas Philip Louis Schreave," Harryo called over her shoulder. "You don't need to walk me back."
"Oh but I do, knowing you, you'll get "lost" on the way there." Nicholas said, besides his room was right next to her's and he should have been in bed himself.
Harryo chuckled, "My sense of direction isn't that bad."
"There's a reason father won't let you drive," Nicholas said as they arrived at her door. "Can you promise me something?"
"Promise you what?" Harryo asked she leaned in closer to her brother. "Is it something serious?" She giggled and Nicholas rolled his eyes.
"Have you been drinking?"
"I may have had a drink or two," Harryo said with a playful smile.
Nicholas rolled his eyes, "Just go to bed. We'll talk in the morning."
Harryo opened the door to to her room and stepped inside. Without bothering to change she walked towards her bed and fell on top of it, falling asleep moments after her head hit the pillow.
Hello and welcome to my Selection SYOC. This is a double selection, so I will be accepting both male and female submissions. All applications must be sent through PM with the character's name in the subject line. Thank you.
King Brice: He's a kind, but firm man. He's a good ruler and genuinely wants the best for the people of Illéa. He is a little classist and a firm believer in the castes and the monarchy. He often clashes with his more open minded and carefree daughter.
Queen Katherine: She's a reserved woman and very hard to please. She likes who she likes and you might as well not exist if you fall out of favour with the Queen. She was formerly a two and looks down on the lower castes. She and Harriet are almost always in a fight over political beliefs.
Prince Nicholas (22): He's a lot like his father, he's kind but a bit stuffy as he likes rules and order. It takes a lot for him to open up to people, and he doesn't really joke around much. Deep down he's a caring individual, he just struggles to show it. He, like his father, is a little classist, but much more tolerating than his mother. Has a very small dating history.
Harriet (Harryo) (19): Eccentric and fun loving, the apple fell far from the tree with Harryo. She's like a ray of sunshine, always bringing out the best in people. She's spontaneous and fun and never thinks of the consequences of her actions. She is accepting of people in other castes and has a considerable history of boyfriends and hook ups (well considerable for a Princess).
