He stood there, mouth agape. "Why?" he asked. He looked at the body in front of him. A shadowy figure stood behind it, holding a bloody sword with a wicked curve.

"WHY!" He demanded again.

"You know why." The shadow said.

Anger filled him. "You trusted him. He was like a father to you."

"I don't need a father, and I also don't need a brother like you." The shadow said. It stepped forward, raised the sword and brought it down.

Chapter 1

Jade sat up in bed, sweat covering him form head to foot. His eyes were wide with terror. Something moved next to him. He looked over to see his love, the beautiful form of Rei Hino, his one true love. Her eyes opened and she looked at him, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Jade said. He got out of bed and walked toward the bathroom.

"It's not 'nothing'," she said, sitting up. "It was that dream again, wasn't it?" Jade stopped and turned to her. The full moon shown through the window behind the bed, illuminating her figure. He walked back to the bed, leaned in and kissed her on the forehead. "Go back to sleep, I'll be fine." He turned and walked out of the room before she could say anything else.

He stepped outside, the cold night made him shiver a little, but he soon got used to it. He pulled a pack of cigarettes out from beneath one of the statues that lined the temple walkway. Lighting one of them, he took a deep breath, and looked at the moon.

'Why can't I forget?' he thought. He took a drag on the cigarette, and blew out smoke. He stood there for about a minuet before he heard soft footsteps behind him.

"I thought you were gong to quit?" a voice said. Jade looked down to see Eclipse, his guardian cat, and best friend, walk up to him.

"Stop nagging me fur ball." Jade said squatting down and petting Eclipse on the head.

"What's wrong?" Eclipse asked.

"Why dose everyone keep asking me that?" Jade said blowing out another plume of smoke. "I'm fine." He said.

"Rei sent me out here. She said you had that dream again."

"It's not important." Jade said. He had finished his smoke and put it out on the walkway. "I'm going back to bed." He said. Jade walked back into the temple that was his home. From the room to the right of the stairs, he heard Reis grandpa snoring away. He started climbed the stairs to his room and opened the door.

A shadowy figure stood next to the bed, a bloody sword in hand. Jade saw a pile on the bed that was once Rei, his love. The figure smiled, its teeth shining white in the dark room. Jade began to shake. 'No' he thought, 'Not again'

The figure started to walk to him. Jade tried to back away, but was at the wall. The figure raised its sword, its piercing blue eyes shining in the dark. "NO!" Jade cried. "NO," he grabbed the sides of his head. "NO NO NO!"

"Jade! WAKE UP!"

He opened his eyes. He was in bed, looking up at Rei. She wore a look of concern on her face. "Are you ok?" she asked.

He reached up and put is arms around her, pulling her to him. He felt tears in his eyes as he held her close. "Jade?" she asked.

"I love you," was all he could say before he fell back to sleep.
