Author's Note: This story was one of my first original fan fiction ideas that I had not got around to writing until now.  One of my good friends and I have role played this idea for over a year now and I am finally figured out what to write. This story is based off of an anime called Yu-Gi-Oh and many characters from the show appears in this story, but most of it is based off an original character of mine named Kori Pegasus. I hope you enjoy and reviews are nice. Reviews help inspire the author ^_^ If you want more chapters, write reviews.

Disclaimer: All characters (the exception of Kori Pegasus) and related materials that belong to Yu-Gi-Oh rightfully show respect and ownership to its creator: Kazuki Takahashi. Also, this involves my character with Joey Wheeler as a romance, so don't hate me for it.

Chapter One

Ocean waves crashed upon the rocky cliffs, sprouted high among the sea. A soft, gentle sea breeze whispered throughout the small, courtyard surrounded in stone. Sea galls cried, soaring low in the twilight sky. Pink highlighted clouds towered high into the heavens, forming an ocean of their own. The sun began to fade over the ocean horizon. Colors of reds, gold, violets and blues danced among the clouds. The full moon slowly rose into the eastern sky. The clouds began to fade, with stars appearing in the velvet sky.

At the highest point on the large, privately-owned island, stood a magnificent sandstone castle. Sandstone in color, the castle was rather old, yet full of life. Around the large sandstone castle, children to young adults participated in a dueling tournament that was being held on this island. In the forests, plains, beaches and caves held dueling arenas that were occupied by many young people. Holding a dueling tournament kept the island inhabitants rather busy.

On the western boarders of the courtyard was a late adolescent girl perched up on the cold, stone wall. Her body wrapped together. Her knees were brought up, arms keeping them tucked in. Black dress shoes appeared to her left side, resting before her feet.

A gush of sea breeze gently combed the girl's thick, auburn hair. When the wind had died down, her hair fell just above her shoulders. Covering her ears, it annoyed her, so her fingers gently brushed back the hair behind her ears. A few bangs fell over her violet eyes, into her pale face.

Those violet eyes were locked onto the fading sun. They were filled with sadness and anger. Becoming dull and clouded over within time, tears slowly began to build in the corners of each. The tears threatened quickly to fall, building up rapidly.

Her skin was rather olive in color. Her soft rose lips were pressed firmly together with her top teeth biting into her lower lip that was curled in slightly. Her eyes closed, soon the tears escaped from the force of gravity down upon the creases of her cheeks. Soft sobs soon escaped her lips that separated. Her head lowered into her knees, covering her head with her hands, burying it into her thighs.

The girl had worn a light cadmium red sweater vest. Her baby blue skirt fell right below her lower thighs. The sweater vest was not warm enough though to keep the girl warm from the cool, night breeze. Chills ran up the girl's spine. Goosebumps followed soon after, crawling up her arms and legs.

Upon her left arm appeared a rather large, yet a fresh bruise. The bruise was greenish- violet in color, formed from the lower forearm to just above the elbow. It covered the majority of her upper arm. Pain ran up her arm, holding it loose to her side. She was surprised that a bone was not broken from what caused the bruise. She was lucky though this time she only got away with a single bruise.

The girl curled up into a tighter ball, burying her head as deep as it can go into her legs. Tears continued to flood down her pale cheeks that barely had any color left to them. No one had noticed the girl all evening or even was concerned for the girl's health. Many that passed by her was employed by her uncle, whom had owned the island.

Though deep down inside the girl's aching heart, the girl was lonely and depressed. All her live she had lived on this island, never being anywhere else. Being the only child of her deceased parents had left her here with her uncle, a man of suffering and mystery. The girl was barely allowed outside the castle walls and when the tournament was going on she was not even allowed to be outside, even in this courtyard. She did not fear though, no one had noticed her all day, with how busy everyone was, but that was typical around these parts.

She had no friends, no family besides her uncle. Her uncle's employees where the only human contact she had with the outside world, never meeting anyone her own age before. Even since she was only a young woman, she was forbidden to do many things. Being home schooled in this castle was not fun, not being able to meet new people. Her private teacher overworked her many long nights in her live, with her having an I.Q. of a 130, she was to be the next in line to run Industrial Illusions, her uncle's company. She had no one to trust on this island and no one to run for help. She looked up into the sky, seeing a shooting star, making the one wish that she has been wishing all her life. To be let free and go as far away from this island as possible.

Just entering the castle walls and surroundings, was a group of teenagers. They walked up the large flight of stairs, panting heavily, trying to catch their breaths. Once they had made it to the top, they had gathered in a small area. There were a total of five high school students, four boys and a girl.

"So where are we suppose to go to now, Yuge?" the blonde, yet tallest boy asked, looking over to the shortest male of the group.

Yugi Motou looked up at the blonde-haired boy. Being the shortest boy in his class, but he was the smartest. He was on the top five, if not being the top of his class at Domino City High School. He excelled in puzzles and games, even at Duel Monsters, being one of the best in the tournament. "I'm not sure Joey, but the finals should be around here somewhere," he said, scratching the back of his head, sweating slightly.

Joey Wheeler sighed heavily, looking down towards the ground. "With Pegasus hosting this tournament, why doesn't he give us any damn directions or something?" he asked, looking back towards Yugi.

Tristan Honda smirked softly, looking over at Joey. "Because he knows that you'll get lost even with the directions," he said, chuckling softly. He crisscrossed his arms, leaning back against the stone wall.

"Tristan!" Joey growled slightly, looking over at his brunette friend. "That's not funny!" he hissed, looking away. He pouted slightly, crisscrossing his arms as well, turning his back to the group.

The group laughed at his reaction, before the albino-haired boy spoke, "he's only teasing you, Joey," he said with a slight British accent.

Tea shook her head, glancing over at Joey. "Don't listen to Tristan. You shouldn't take him seriously, Joey," she told him, laughing softly.

Tristan shot a glance over towards Tea, raising an eyebrow. "What the hell do you mean by that, Tea?" he asked, giving a slight humph afterwards.

Tea smirked softly, looking up Tristan. "Oh, um… nothing," she replied.

The whole group busted out into laughter once again, with Tristan being dumbfounded and confused.

Joey looked over at his best friend, smiling softly, "sorry Tristan," he muttered in reply. "It's just that I need to win the tournament so I can help my sister, Serenity."

Joey's younger sister Serenity had always shad bad eyesight since she was born. Eventually her eyes would get to the point to almost blind. The doctors knew if she did not get an operation soon, she would be blind for the rest of her life. The problem was that the Wheeler family did not have enough money to pay for Serenity's operation. That is why Joey entered the Duelist Kingdom tournament, hosted by Industrial Illusions. Joey was determined to win the three million dollars in prize money, knowing that would be well enough to pay for his sister's operation.

Yugi smiled softly, looking up at Joey. "Don't worry Joey, we'll be in the finals soon enough. Come on, I bet Pegasus' men could tell us where the finals are," he smiled softly, reassuring his best friend.

"Right! Let's go already!" Joey said, smiling brightly. He ran ahead of the group, before disappearing around the corner.

"Hey Joey, wait up!" Yugi yelled after him, before soon following him. The group followed them, sighing heavily.

Joey had entered the small courtyard, seeing the girl perched up on the stone wall. He stopped in his tracks, his cheeks turned bright red. Wow, she's a babe! Joey thought. I wonder if she's a duelist in the finals as well, I would love to duel her! Joey's mouth opened slightly, drool forming at the corner of his lips. He raised an eyebrow, hearing the girl cry. His eyes lowered to her arm, seeing the large bruise. His eyes widen, mouth dropped opened, fearing that she was hurt. "Are you ok?" he asked, slowly walking towards her, not wanting to scare her.

The girl slowly lifted her head, hearing that sweet Brooklyn accent of Joey's. Her violet eyes slowly peeked up beyond her knees, looking up at the blonde haired boy that was standing in front of her. Blush appeared in her cheeks, staring at the strange boy, never meeting a boy her age before. She sat up slightly, with her arms still wrapped around her legs, not responding to his question at first.

Joey's eyes widen, truly seeing how beautiful the girl was. He went to re-ask the question, but he went to open his mouth, but nothing came out. His cheeks turned bright red, lowering his head, trying to hide it. His blonde bangs feel over his eyes, looking at the ground, rather nervous. He reached up, scratching the back of his head, sweating from being so nervous.

The girl's violet eyes sparkled softly as her right hand brushed away those tears that ran down her cheeks. A moment later, she looked up at him. "Yes… I'm fine…" she whispered, lowering her head slightly. Her cheeks still blushed thinking how handsome the boy was that was talking to her.

Joey blinked slightly, his cheeks turning bright red. Her voice was beautiful. Everything about the girl was beautiful. He looked back down at the bruise on her arm, raising an eyebrow. "Just fine?" he re-asked, looking at her. "Then why were you crying?" he asked, really concerned about her.

The girl looked away, realizing he saw the bruise. She reached up, trying to covering her arm. "Eh… um… it's… it's nothing," she stuttered, closing her eyes, fearing that he would find out.

Joey raised an eyebrow at the girl's response. "Nothing? Then why are you covering that bruise?" he asked, determined to find out what was wrong.

The girl sighed once again, hating all these questions, especially by the strange boy. "It's nothing," she said. "I… I… I… just fell… down the… the stairs, yeah, the stairs," she clearly made it up on the spot, trying to hide the truth from him.

It was obvious that the girl was not telling the truth. Joey knew instantly what happened. Ever since his parents had got divorced, living with his dad was hell. None of his friends knew what really happened back home and Joey was happy that he got out of that apartment for the dueling tournament. "That's a bunch of bull," Joey muttered, shaking his head.

The girl glanced up at Joey, raising an eyebrow. Her cheeks grew pale again, fearing that he knew what was going on somehow.

Joey's eyes soften, feeling the pain she was going through. He reached over gently, placing his left hand on her right shoulder. He gripped her shoulder gently, before reaching up with his right hand slowly lifting up her chin, so their eyes could lock. "I'm not stupid, but when it comes to this, being abused is not fun. Especially when you can't stop it," Joey told her, wanting to help her any way he can.

The girl's violet eyes began to get lost in his honey suckled eyes. She listened to what he had to say, knowing it was true, but that sweet Brooklyn accent of his was so beautiful to listen to.

"You have to stand up and face your fears. If that that doesn't work, then find help," Joey said, not knowing why this girl attracted him, but something between them was special, knowing this was his one chance to help someone.

The girl lowered her eyes for a moment, knowing the boy was right. After sixteen years of this kind of abuse, she could not take it anymore. Tears began to run down her cheeks once again, before her arms reached up, wrapping around the boy's neck. "Please… help… me," she whispered, before crying heavily into his chest.

Joey's eyes widen, never being hugged by a girl before, other then his sister. His arms slowly wrapped around her waist, holding her close. To be truthful, Joey did not know what he was doing, but he loved this feeling of being close to a woman as beautiful as her. His cheeks turned bright red, looking down at her, smiling softly. "I promise you I will help you no matter what…" he whispered, resting his chin on the top of her head.

After a long moment after holding the girl, Joey realized that he did not know her name. He sat up on the wall, holding her close. "By the way, my name is Joey Wheeler," he smiled softly, looking down at her.

The girl pulled back slightly, looking up into his eyes, blushing softly. She opened her mouth to say something, but soon she was rudely interrupted.

"Miss Pegasus, your uncle has been searching everywhere for you," an employee of her uncle, Maximillion Pegasus stood in the courtyard, glaring up at the two, not liking the sight of them.

The girl looked up at the man, her face growing pale. She stood up quickly, looking around slightly, not knowing where to run to.

Joey turned his head towards the man, then back at the girl. His face grew pale as well, not believing what he just heard. "A Pegasus?" he questioned, now knowing this is going to be bad.

The girl looked down the edge of the wall, seeing that the cliff extended several feet before it dropped completely. "Never mind, come on," she said, reaching over, grabbing Joey's hands, pulling him with her. She reached over, jumping off the edge of the wall before screaming out, followed by Joey's scream.

The man's eyes widen running over to the wall, looking down. "MISS PEGASUS!" he yelled out for her, not knowing why the girl jumped. He was truly afraid for the girl's life and yet his own.
