It was annoying her but she couldn't help her hands shaking. She had curled them into fists, trying to disguise the fact by talking louder than usual, flapping her hair more and blatantly ignoring people but she still couldn't stop them from shaking.
"Elliot… are you okay?"
"Yeah; I'm fine," she winced at the high pitched tone in her voice, only leading to her wincing because her original wince had been so obvious, "perfectly fine."
"Okay."
The intruder left and Elliot let out a short sigh of relief. She would be able to leave soon, go home and eat a tub of ice-cream and then nothing would matter anymore. Nothing, of course, until the next morning when she would have to face JD again.
He was keeping his distance from her, shooting her glances that she couldn't decide if they were pitying or pitiful. She scowled whenever she caught him watching her and she could see that it was offending him and that helped to lesson the pain. She wanted him to be offended; wanted him to know that he had hurt her too much this time. That what he had done was unforgivable. He could at least have waited until after the wedding before he had dumped her.
She grabbed one of the drinks, almost spilling it from her quivering and she lifted it to her lips; she'd be able to leave soon and go home and try to forget that she had left an amazing boyfriend to be JD's toy doll.
But she knew that she wouldn't be able to remember, and that was why her hands were still shaking.
