This was originally in my OHSHC/FMA crossover, as a bonus story, but because it has nothing to do with Ouran High School Host Club I decided to remove it from there and re-post it as a one-shot.
Disclaimer: *looks in mirror and talks to self* Nope, I don't look like a cow, so I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist. *sigh*
Ed was having a bad hair day. There was one lock that insisted on standing up, and not just sticking out a little. The problem hairs were sticking straight up, perpendicular to his head.
"Die you stupid piece of hair," grumbled the young Elric as he tried holding the strand down with water.
"Ed!" called Trisha Elric, "Breakfast's almost ready, get down here."
"Coming!" he called. After struggling with the insistent hair for a few more seconds he admitted defeat and walked into the kitchen.
"Big brother, did you get taller?" asked Alphonse.
"Huh? I don't think so, maybe," said Edward.
"Al's right," said Trisha Elric. "I think you may have finally hit your growth spurt."
"Really?" asked Edward. "Measure me! Measure me measure me measure me!"
"ha ha ha okay, I will," said Trisha. They walked to the doorway that had marks tracking the heights of the two boys. Edward stood up straight against the wood and his mother used a pencil to mark his height. It had not changed. "Sorry Ed, it must have just been your hair." Edward was so disappointed that he almost cried. "Why don't you two play with Winry after breakfast," she said, trying to distract Edward.
"Sure thing mom," said one energetic voice and one unenthusiastic voice.
Later, at the Rockbell's
"Hey Ed, did you finally hit your growth spurt?" asked Winry. "Because you look taller today."
From that day forward Edward always made sure that that one lock of hair was always standing straight up.
Oh yeah! In case you didn't understand the disclaimer Hiromu Arakawa, the author of Fullmetal Alchemist, depicts herself as a humanoid cow in her self-portriats for the manga volumes.
