Goodbye Jem

An elegy written by Will for Jem when he thinks that he has died in the third book. SPOILERS for third book, obviously. Just a poem I wrote when I was reading and grieving. Hope you like! R R

Too good for this earth

You have passed on

Only now do I have faith in life after death

For it's impossible that you are truly gone

I know that you live on

In some plane of existence that none living can comprehend

You must

For it cannot be possible that this is your end

Your shell might lie cold in the ground

But surely your soul soars free

Into the next life

My biggest regret is that you have left me

I knew this day would come

But I always shied away from the thought

Your silver eyes and hair the constant proof of death's imminence

But longer life for you I sought

Alas that my efforts were in vain

Now you have passed beyond the hill

I hope to see your face again

And I feel certain that someday I will

Meantime, there are no words that I can say

And this, you know, is surely a first

Bound together through our days

All that fits is the verse
