A/N: This is a somewhat sequel to "The Game" and deals with a very out of character, love struck Kaidan seeing something he probably shouldn't be seeing. This story can take place any time after you've rescued Liara. Sorry for Kaidan being a little out of character, I never did like him much.

Learning To Take Hints

His heart missed a beat as he saw her walking quickly in his direction. Ah, Commander Jane Shepard, the wonderful Commander! Kaidan Alenko quickly adopted his most winsome expression and smiled handsomely at Shepard as she drew level with him.

"Good morning, Commander." She glanced at him.

"Lieutenant", she acknowledged, and walked into the elevator.

Kaidan was ecstatic. She smiled at him! He knew it! No woman could resist his charms for long. He stood dreaming in front of the lift until someone bumped into him.

"Sorry, Alenko", apologised Garrus, helping the Kaidan to his feet. Garrus gazed at Kaidan in amusement.

"If I'm not mistaken Lieutenant, and I very rarely am, you've been wandering round in a daze ever since the Commander spoke to you after rescuing Liara?" Garrus failed to mention that Shepard had also gone around and had been routinely speaking to everyone on the Normandy.

"It's blindingly obvious that you've got a thing for the Commander'. Kaidan looked outraged for a moment, blustering,

"I respect Shepard highly, she..." before giving it up and yelling excitedly, "I think she likes me! She hasn't yelled at me for... well, ever since the Artemis Tau, and just now she... she smiled at me!!"

His expression was endearing in its optimism. Garrus laughed at him and the two men waited in companiable silence for the elevator to arrive.

As it drew nearer they could hear a distinctly feminine giggle from the interior, followed by the laughing command,

"Ahh, Jane stop it!!"

Kaidan and Garrus grinned at each other, eyebrows raised. They delicately looked away as the doors slid open.

Kaidan was the first to look. What he saw made his mouth drop open. He managed to whap Garrus on the arm. Garrus looked up and he too stood frozen in shock.

The occupants of the elevator were not aware of their presence. They were far too involved within each other. Commander Shepard, first human Spectre, stood in disarray. Dr. Liara T'Soni and Commander Jane Shepard were so wrapped up in each other, that they didn't hear the door open. The sound of Kaidan gasping as he took in the picture before him, didn't even register.

Shepard had Liara pinned to the doorframe, kissing her. Liara's leg was wrapped around her hip, hands entangled in her hair. Both women were entirely oblivious to the fact that the elevator had stopped.

It wasn't until Garrus had cleared his throat, several times, that they realized he was there.

Shepard heard him. She turned quickly and saw then standing in the doorway and a warm blush rose up her throat and face. Liara, meanwhile, opened her eyes to find herself being gawked at by a very surprised turian and shell-shocked Kaidan.

Shepard ignored the men and stepped off the lift, giving Garrus and Kaidan the biggest grin they'd ever seen on her face.

"Gentlemen." She acknowledged and then walked towards the medical bay with Liara in tow not even trying to stifle her laughter. Every time she thought she'd stop laughing, Shepard would look at the two men standing in horror in the doorway and it was enough to set her off again. Finally Garrus was able to drag Kaidan away from the doorway. As they walked in shock down the corridor they could still hear the sound of giggling.

'Well, I guess maybe you should learn to take hints, Lieutenant." Garrus said philosophically.
