"Wait a sec, you remember now?"
The redhead stared over at his former...what had they used to be...he decided to settle on friend for the time being until he was certain if the other actually remembered sneaking into his room at night...cuddling close to him for protection against the storms that raged at the windows of the castle...sometimes more than cuddling to distract him from it.
Roxas smiled and nodded.
"Of course I do. We ARE best friends after all, silly."
Axel watched him carefully as he spoke, following his gaze. It wavered occasionally, as though the blonde was uncertain of what he was saying.
"No. No, you're lying, Roxas."
He turned on his heel, starting to walk away.
Roxas ran to him, hooking his arms around the red-head, stopping him.
"Roxas...please just let go. You don't remember anything, and I think it'd just be more painfull if you were only pretending for the rest of your life."
"I'm trying to remember...I'm TRYING, Axel! I can see you in my mind but I can't quite picture anything else. But you're THERE. I KNOW you are."
Axel sighed.
"Don't you know that this is all an illusion, Rox...as?" He almost slipped up, almost called Roxas the nickname.
Roxas's gaze hardened and he clenched his fingers in Axel's coat.
"You're lying...This is here. You're here. I'm here...It's all real."
Axel put a palm over his face, keeping his breathing even.
"Roxas, when you even stop to blink one more time, I'll be gone. And as time passes, you will have forgotten all about me. The dream will have ended, and you will have woken up in your bed, wondering if I was actually there. But I wasn't. I was never here. I'm not here now. And I never will be."
He lowered his hand, summoning a darkness portal, and pulled the blonde's hands away from his body.
"Axel...Don't leave me...There was this...gap...before...and now that I see you...it's gone..."
Axel turned to him, grabbing his shoulders, kissing him hard...passionately...roughly...desperately...
"God damn it, Roxas. I WANT this to be real. For the love of everything, I NEED this to be real. But it can't. Things just can't happen like that...Roxy..."
And with that, he spun on his heel, retreating into the portal, and vanishing from Roxas's life forever.
I...really like my writing at 7:30 in the morning XD -hasn't slept-
