When I Disappear

Author's Notes

: An Ark of Prince consists of seven short stories one of which is Music at the Break of Dawn. It left a deep impression upon me and motivated me to write this poem from Akio's (the pianist) point of view. Even though it is so, I often imagine that it was Haruyuki (the novelist) who actually wrote it. I have read only two of Enjin Yamimura-sensei's works hitherto (王子の方舟/An Ark of Prince, きみがいなけりゃ息もできない/I Can't Even Breath Without You) but the unique quality of love they portray have engraved both of them in my mind.

You and I –
A bundle of memories,
You and I –
Like in a love story,
You and I –
And a glass of sake,
You and I –
In a warm bed,
You and I –
And the music at dawn,
You and I –
Living and moving on…

Remember it all
No matter how you wish to forget,
Remember it all
Even when it hurts so you regret,
Remember it all
When you look at me once again,
Remember it all
And love me despite the pain.

These overwhelming feelings
I could never express
But you heard them
Just the same –
Keep them alive
Even when I am gone
Treasure them endlessly
Keep alive this love I'll forget.

When I pass you by next time
(Only a mere stranger)
Repeat in your mind
(All about me)
And how you love me
(All you like about me)
Repeat it over again
(So you do not forget).

And on another November morning
Listen to my music at dawn
Tell me how you love it
And for sake, invite me to your home.
Teach me how to love you again
Teach me how to hold you again.

And hold me so you do not forget.
You and I –
Strangers again,
You and I –
On a cold morning again,
You and I –
Creating new memories,
You and I –
Soulful melodies,
You and I –
Drinking o-sake,
You and I –
In love beyond life and death…
