Dance With My Father
Disclaimer: I own nothing! Just make me feel even worse!
A/N: This story evolves from the song 'Dance With My Father' by Luther Vandross. I would recommend this song to everyone. It's rather devastating.
On a second note, I would like to dedicate this story to a friend of mine who recently lost his father. About a week ago, I was over his house when his mother introduced me to this song. Later that night, I came upon this story.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Dance With My Father
Harry sat in the Common Room with his girlfriend, Hermione, and his best friend, Ron. They were looking at pictures from the past. Every occasion was in there. Summer breaks, Christmases, Easters, birthdays, dances, and many more.
Hermione laid her head on Harry's shoulder as he came upon pictures of his parents. First of their wedding. He looked into his mother's smiling face. She grinned at him so brightly, it was almost magical. His father was grinning and laughing, just like his godfather, Sirius, who stood in the back round.
Next, came a picture of his father and mother ballroom dancing. His mother was in a beautiful pale pink gown. Her red hair was in an elegant bun. His father was in a black tux. His wild black hair stuck out at odd ends, like Harry's.
Then came a picture that made Harry's heart drop. His father was dancing with him. He spun him round as he held baby Harry tightly in his arms. James's eyes were on Harry the whole time. He smiled at him as baby Harry laughed up a storm.
"Harry? Are you okay?" Hermione asked him. But Harry didn't answer, for he was locked up in the picture of him and his father.
**Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around 'til I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved
If I could get another chance, another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a sing that would never, ever end
How I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
When I and my mother would disagree
To get my way, I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me
Then finally make me do just what my mama said
Later that when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never, ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love
To dance with my father again
Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying
To dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream**
A single, perfect shaped tear rolled down Harry's round cheek and landed on the picture of him and his father. Hermione took hold of his hand.
"I just wish I could see him, dance with him again." Harry said as another tear followed the already dropped one.
"Your father, at this every moment and every moment, is wishing the exact same thing." Ron said next to Harry.
Hope you liked it! This was a one chapter only story, but if you want, send me a review!
