"Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go."

Kikyo tried not to. She tried so hard. But the yearning was too strong. The yearning... to love. To be loved. Even now, as she sat helpless in her small hut, she thought of him. She had guarded her heart so well thus far. But now, now she felt so unveiled, so vulnerable.

"So make the best of this test, and don't ask why. It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time."

He'd call on her, and they'd fight. Most everyone in the village knew this. But what they didn't know, is what they shared afterwards. She was so alone in the world. And he was too. So why be lonely, alone?

"It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life."

Then the rumors started. And her pride was broken. If he had felt guilt for their tainted love before, he hadn't showed it until now. Her mind fought against her heart, and won. Kikyo wasn't ever sure if he was dead. But it was over. And she was left, as always, alone again.

"So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind. Hang it on a shelf of good health and good time."

She never slept. As soon as she closed her eyes, the memories came back. Him laughing, the soft words he spoke to her.. his comforting yet powerful love. She seemed to cry her sanity away, and the nights had never felt so long.

"Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial. For what it's worth, it was worth all the while."

It didn't take long for her tears to run out. Her mind, now fixated on her duty as a priestess, forgot everything else. Or bottled it away; either way, she wanted revenge. On who? On what? On anything. She gave up her only chance of happiness for her duty; so her duty she shall fulfill.

"It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life."

Kikyo was so busy tearing up every demon she found that guilt did not phase her. Her true mind was gone. And all her dreams vanquished. Her heart was left a broken shell. And then, then she died.

"It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life."

Thinking back, on all she had, on all she gave, it made sense. Not everyone in the world will die happily, she knew that from the many she slaughtered. And of the man. That one man who turned her repetitious life upside down, was alive. In death, she could feel him. And that strong will, the will to fight, was ever present with her return from the dead.

"It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life."

So, dear Inuyasha, must be the same as her. After all, she wasn't meant for love. And wouldn't the one she had loved be the same? Of course. Her heart in pieces, as was her mind, Kikyo set out to her duty. Her duty to always be alone.

"It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life."
