You give into my insane plan to drive a car to our new home. I think of it as an adventure. The road is long, dusty, and bumpy, and you complain about how dreadful this trip is for your looks. But, looking over at you in the passenger seat, here with me, you've never looked more beautiful.
The Chevy's packed with all our belongings, and I still haven't gotten tired of saying our. The sun's setting, and the shadows are lengthening, a few stars beginning to be visible. You've always liked dusk best.
We stop on the side of the road, and you lay out on the hood of the car, closing your eyes. I sneak my camera out and snap a picture before you notice and sulk about there being evidence somewhere of you not looking impeccable. But you know I like it best when you're disheveled. But I have another reason for taking this picture. When you have to leave next, I want to dream of you.
ooo
I want to go camping one day. The Dursleys went once without me. The experience was never repeated because Dudley couldn't stay away from electronics that long but still…I've always wanted to go. You don't complain too much, although I do make us bring a Muggle tent. You think I don't notice when you put a Pillow Charm on the ground and an Imperturbable Charm around the campsite to keep out the bugs.
I pitch the tent and you help a little despite how far this is from anything you understand. You understand me. The crackling of the campfire can be heard over our gasps as our bodies meet in the single sleeping bag. And as you curl asleep next to me, spent, I gaze out the tent flap at the sparks as they drift up towards the cloudless starry night. My heart hurts, twisting in my chest where your skin touches mine.
ooo
I remember staying up all night with you. We are on vacation, and have dinner on the beach. And as the sun sets, you reach into the basket you had insisted on packing, and draw out a pack of fags and a bottle of red wine.
When I swipe it and take a long draught directly from the bottle, you call me a plebian and conjure two crystal glasses. Four hours later, a new bottle is at your lips, and you don't sneer at all when I kiss the drops from your mouth.
We stumble back to the house and hastily strip to lose the barriers separating us. After your eyes close, I hold you close while you sleep.
ooo
I wake up as the sun's rays stream magnified through the stained glass windows. Your hair is splayed around your head like a golden halo, the green and blue light dappling your skin. Your face is so much more relaxed in sleep, a small smile playing on your lips.
My heart skips a beat as your eyes open and their sleepy gray depths light when they see me. The sun is blazing down upon us, a faint sheen of sweat making your skin glow. And you're the loveliest person I've ever seen.
Oh, I never want to be without you. So, just stay with me, I will love you endlessly.
Those are the best days of my life."
