Chapter One
He sat there, at his average computer, doing his pointless homework, hating his normal life. Being seventeen and a guy with few friends, Josh Freemore had a nearly limitless amount of free time.
For years he had seemingly done nothing important, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing worth mentioning. He felt that he wasn't living his life correctly….like he was merely existing. Always he had read comics and wrote stories about people he thought were important, were amazing. The superheroes he had come to admire.
Unfortunately, his life was about to take a turn for the worse….
Finishing his frivolous homework, he went out for a walk. The park down the street had become a favorite destination for his frequent walks, made out of sheer boredom. The scene at the bland area of trees and jungle gyms was different, on this night.
A man was running, faster than he'd ever run, obviously being chased by the pounding footsteps that beat through the air. Josh saw this, and hid behind a bush, waiting to see what would happen.
The man tripped; a slight piece of whatever he had been carrying shattered. Then he fled, leaving as fast as he had gone. Moments later at least five men came running passed, all wearing body armor and carrying heavy guns.
Listening to the men yelling in the distance, Josh left his hiding placed and made ready to sprint back home. Just before his first step, something seemed to pull at him. Nothing physical, but a strange curiosity, compelling him to stay at the park for a moment. He began searching the grass, not knowing why, only knowing he must find something.
He saw what drew him so unendingly; the piece of glass, shattered from whatever the fleeing man had been carrying. Without a thought of safety or the slightest delay, he picked it up, accidentally nicking his finger in the process.
Then it was gone. The feeling of staying, of compulsion, disappeared in an instant. "Weird," Josh mumbled to himself. "Better get home before Mom flips out."
He went back home, still mulling over the strange events of the night.
Later, he fell asleep, dreaming of destruction and chaos. A powerful hunger stole over him, insatiable, demonic, and wonderful. He was seeing all of this through the eyes of something else, something terrible, and alien.
He woke up at one o'clock in the morning, screaming at the pain in the back of his neck.
"Yes…"something said, deep from within his mind. "I can you're your pain…your suffering…..and what's this?...Oh yes…the jealousy…hate burns in your veins…I can feel it…..oh, and the desire…..The NEED for power…..I can give you so much…..so much more than you have…"The monster laughed, a horrible sound, between gargle and screech.
"Get off of me!" Josh screamed. "GET OUT OF ME!" He started tearing at his neck, something seeping into his skin, feeling cold and hungry. It started to spread, unstoppable, a disease in every form, dark red as blood, seeming to laugh as it conquered every part of the teenager's body.
Finally it stopped, fully having consumed its new host.
"Oh, we'll have fun, you and I," it said. "I believe it's time to tell you what I am. I am death incarnate, The spreader of plague….I am Carnage, and now Parker will feel my vengeance!"
To be continued……
