Summary: I stare at the dirty pavement. For how long I don't know, all I know is that I'm having a lot of trouble remembering how I got there.
I wake with a start, gasping, which I immediately regret, as it makes me painfully aware of a sharp pain at the back of my head. I stare at what seems like empty space for a while, but eventually my vision clears and adjusts to the darkness enough for me to tell I'm in some sort of ally. I can't bring my self to move for a time, the pain in my head is too overwhelming. I stare at the dirty pavement. For how long I don't know, all I know is that I'm having a lot of trouble remembering how I got there. I run through a quick re-cap of the night's events, all I can remember is screaming, and then waking up. I'm coming up blank on anything else. I start to panic a little, but quickly calm myself down, it will come, I should probably try to get up in the meantime. Ignoring the pain in my head I move my legs to better give myself support and use my arms to pull myself into a sitting position, I maintain this position for all of 5 seconds before beginning to fall back. I draw in a quick breath waiting for impact but instead am pleasantly surprised to now be leaning against a short cardboard box. Well that little incident proves I'm not going anywhere soon.
With a shallow sigh I begin to re-assess the situation. I look down at myself, now that I have a better point of view, and find that my clothes are trashed, jeans ripped and stained, and I'm missing a shoe. I look at my torso and find a hoodie clung to my thin frame. Wait, pockets! Of course, I have to check my pockets! I stick my hands first into the hoodie and come up empty, then into the jeans pockets and come up with just a piece of lint. I don't even bother trying the back pockets, as in my current position anything in them would be obvious. I sigh once more and try to remember again, to no avail. I reach my hand to the back of my head out of curiosity and to my alarm it comes back bloody. I examine it in the dull light and try in vain to wipe it on the ground next to me. I slowly crane my neck towards the street at the end of the ally, about 10 feet to my right, seeing no cars or foot traffic, only a single street light. Craning it to the left I see the end of the ally, a rough brick wall, about 2 feet to the left. The ally itself is fairly clear, save a few cardboard boxes. I consider trying to get back up, but decide against it, my last attempt reminding me I'm not the strongest right now, besides I'm feeling really tired. I'm closing my eyes for a short rest when I hear a soft mewling. I open my eyes with a slight jump, surprised, seeing as the only sound I'd known since waking up was my own breathing. I slow my breaths down and slowly rotate my head to the end of the ally where a black cat sat. It stared right at me and mewled again.
I lay my head back against the box and feel my lids getting heavier, it's getting harder to stay awake. My eyes are beginning to close again when I hear footsteps off in the distance, and the cat mewls again. My eyes snap back open for a brief second before falling back shut again when I hear the sound of someone speaking, "Alright Blair, here I am, what did you-OH SHIT." The footsteps get louder and then stop and then the voice is right in front of me, but I can't understand it past my own heartbeat in my ears and then everything goes quiet.
