Before He Cheats
Author's Note: I was sitting at the bar listening to my friend sing this song last night for her ex-boyfriend and it made me think of Donna finding out Eric has cheated on her. Of coarse most wouldn't expect it in this way but anyway. The song that inspired it is Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood.
Donna stood in the hotel parking lot trying to get up the courage to go inside and confront him. She wasn't going to just back down. After years of watching Kelso and Hyde cheat on Jackie, she had planned what she would do if Eric ever cheated on her. She just didn't expect it to ever happen. She was going to march right in there and tell him off. She might even punch him and when she was done with that she'd hit Hyde also. He deserved it just as much. After all it was his fault. Eric would have never cheated on her if it wasn't for him. She pulled herself up onto the hood of the vista cruiser. It was such bullshit the way she found out also. Walking into the basement and finding them out in the open. He could have just told her there was someone else. He could have been honest with her. Sure it would hurt but not as much as walking in on it. They were friends before they started dating and now what were they? Nothing. She couldn't trust him. She didn't even know if she could look at him.
Before she knew what she was doing Donna grabbed the baseball bat that was in the back of the vista cruiser. She was so angry. She wasn't thinking straight. She smashed the head lights as the tears rolled down her cheeks. He wasn't going to get away with hurting her and just forgetting about it, she thought as she slashed all four tires. She slumped down on the curb and stared out at the dark sky. What went wrong? Why did it come to this?
She gave up going to college in Madison for him. She lost her virginity to him. She had given him pretty much all of her childhood. She didn't have one single memory that didn't include Eric and this was how he repaid her. She smashed her fists against the vista cruiser. He wouldn't get away with it. Neither of them would. She grabbed her keys and dug into the passenger side of the car making a deep line. When she had went the full length of the car she turned to Hyde's El Camino. They were best friends after all. They did everything together. They should have matching cars, only Hyde's needed a little special attention. She grabbed the knife she used to slash their tires and on the drivers side she carved her name in his brand new leather seats. He may have Eric now but she was the one that neither of them would forget.
She packed up just enough stuff that she would need to get her by in Madison and said goodbye to her dad. She left Jackie a note explaining where she had gone and what she had walked in on the night before. Someone had to have the decency to tell them what was going on. It sure in the hell wouldn't be the boys that supposedly loved them so much. She wouldn't be around though when any of them got home. Eric and Hyde had enough warning with the little present she left them in the parking lot.
Hyde got off shift at midnight. He couldn't believe what he saw. His car was completely trashed. Headlights broken, keyed, tires slashed. As he got closer he looked in the window and saw Donna's name in his seat. He slammed his head on the roof of the car. He knew. Shit. Jackie probably knew also. He turned around and walked back into the hotel restaurant. This was not good but he knew it was coming. Eric and him had been fooling around for 5 years and never got caught. It was bound to happen sometime.
