Claire was actually completely happy for once in her life. She'd found out she was an Old Soul and she'd also found her soulmate. Some people didn't 'understand' him because of how he was. He actually liked trying to save chipmunks from toxic waste and some people found that fact funny (mainly Jez and Morgead). But Claire thought it was cute. Though she'd always thought Hugh was cute even before she had gotten to know him. That was probably something to do with the soulmate bond between them. He had that different clumsy cuteness about him that Claire completely loved.
Hugh was happy. Not only had he found his soulmate but he had learnt that she was and Old Soul so he would never lose her for too long. She would always come back to him just like he would go back to her. Lord Thierry had promised them that when they did finally die, he would make sure he would find them and make sure they would be together again and again. Hugh knew that Lord Thierry knew how it felt because of his relationship with Lady Hannah. Hugh loved Claire and he knew he would do anything for her. Her feelings were too strong for her and he knew he could never leave her.
