Ginny peered at Harry through the curtain of hair falling over her face. He was standing opposite her with a hopeful expression and a hand outstretched. She brushed away the strands of hair obscuring her sight and smiled. 'Sure.'
He took hold of her hand and brought her close. Ginny always felt marvellous in his arms, always deceptively fragile. They walked over to the dance floor and he only barely heard the music over his heartbeat. Ginny raised an eyebrow and he grinned back at her, the look she gave him making him remember to start dancing.
Let him hold you tight
You can smile every smile for the man who held your hand
'Neath the pale moonlight
They moved in time with the music and, although Harry was no where near a consummate dancer, Ginny more than made up for it. Somewhere along the line she must have had dancing lessons. Her graceful movements made him feel awkward and ungainly beside her. The song finished with a flourish and Harry bowed - the first elegant gesture he had made all night.
She laughed, and at such encouragement, Harry spun her around, making her feel dizzy. It was rather like being intoxicated, Ginny decided. It felt very nice to be in his arms. But not right. That was the difference. Her heart was indifferent to his gentle embraces.
Go and have your fun
Laugh and sing but while we're apart
Don't give your heart to anyone
Till the night is gone and it's time to go
If he asks if you're all alone can he take you home
You must tell him no.
Ginny felt the cool air prickle her arms, and she rubbed them to warm them. She spun around at the touch of someone's hand on her shoulder. The heavy weight was reassuring. 'Remus.' Ginny said with a perfect smile upon her face.
He wrapped his arm around her waist and drew her close, closer than Harry had dared. The music was muted out in the garden, but it was irrelevant. They could dance to music only they heard if need be. Remus applied pressure to her back and they moved as one in time to the band in the Hall. His steps were fluid and confident, such a difference to her former dance partner. It was a pure pleasure to be there, in his arms, with their bodies moving in unison.
And in whose arms you're gonna be.
So darling, save the last dance for me."
'Just a song.' He said into her hair.
Can't you feel it when we touch?
I will never never let you go,
Cause I love you oh so much."
When she came back to his body, he said: 'I love you too.'
And in whose arms you're gonna be
So darling, save the last dance for me
