As Long as I'm with you
The sun shines in through the window of the Mall storage room. It shines on two (former) high schoolers named Miki and Kei and their dog Toramaru. Miki was sitting on the couch reading her novel while Kei was listening to the radio static of her CD player and Toramaru was soundly napping next to her. It had been one month since they had first found themselves trapped in that mall due to dire circumstances. The small room had all the items needed to survive for a long while, but to some it would not be enough.
Staring at her CD player for such a long time, Kei developed a blank stare. Leaving the radio on, she gets up and starts pacing back and forth across the room. Taramaru, not hearing Kei, continues to sleep. Miki still focused on her book can hear nothing but the static of the radio and the muffled steps of Kei's feet pacing around the room. After what sounds a like three cycles, Miki looks up from her book. Seeing the blank expression on Kei's face, Miki becomes uneasy.
"Hey, Kei, is something wrong? Are you ok?" Miki asks in a concerned tone. Kei stops pacing in front of the window starring outside. "Am I ok?" Kei says in a slow cold tone. Not moving, swaying or even blinking, Kei continues starting outside towards the setting sun. "Kei?" Miki asks as she slowly puts down her book and stands up.
The room was silent except the hum of the radio static. Miki was about to say something but got cut off. "How can I be ok? How can you be ok?" Kei yells. "How can any of us be ok?" Miki, shocked, didn't know how to respond. "We've been trapped in this hell for over a month." Kei continued. "I'm tired! I'm tired of seeing the same bathroom, the same furniture and same boxes, the same four walls and the same monsters rambling out there keep us from the world!" Kei shouted. "So no, I am not ok." Kei said as she started to cry. "I can't- I can't do this anymore." Kei collapsed on the floor crying. "I jus- I just don't want to be alone."
Kei could feel arms wrapping around her. "Yes, we're alone." Miki said in a soothing voice. "We're alone in the room, we're alone in town, and we're alone in this world. But, we're alone together." Kei could barely see with tears in her eyes. "Is this really enough?" "Is this really enough for you?" Kei sniffed. Miki gave a small grin "As long as I'm with you." Miki caressed Kei's cheek, leaned in to Kei and planted a kiss on her lips.
Miki suddenly awoke to see the familiar sight of her club room. The room was only dimly lit from the moonlight outside. The others were sleeping on the floor with their sleeping bags while Toramaru was sleeping in his box. The memory of her former love left her somber as tears started to form in her eyes.
"Hey?" Yuki whispered. "Mii-kun, are you ok." Yuki had her arms wrapped around Miki and could feel her heart beat get faster. "I'm fine, Yuki." Whispered Miki. "I just had a dream about, about someone I lost some time ago." Miki said holding back tears. "Mii-kun." Yuki said as she held Miki tighter. "Don't hold it in. It's ok. We all have someone we lost or miss. Whoever they were, I'm sure they wouldn't want you to hold it in like this."
"Is this really ok? Are we going to be ok?" whispered Miki. Yuki gave a mellow smile. "It'll be ok, Mii-kun, as long as I'm with you."
Miki's eyes widened as she saw Yuki's gentle face and beautiful eyes. She started to tear up as she buried her head in Yuki's chest. "There, There" Yuki rubbed Miki's back. For a long time, Miki had seen nothing but destruction and despair. Seeing the world in shambles made her heart break. But, then she found Yuki. Yuki was her diamond among the broken glass. "I love you, Yuki." Miki whispered. "I love you too Mii-kun." And with that they both went back to sleep, together.
