In Your Name (I Will Survive)
Ruby woke up and knew this was the day she was leaving.
It was early. The sun wasn't anywhere close to rising, but she knew it was time to leave. She called Jaune, speaking quickly and quietly.
He had visited her, not long after she had finally woken from her coma. Ren and Nora came with him. Jaune had spoken to her quietly but firmly. He had made her promise that when it was time to fight again, she wouldn't leave them behind. Ren and Nora, who had been sitting next to them, had looked at her, their eyes fierce and determined.
She had promised she would but had told them she would have called anyway.
'We need to rely on each other,' she had said. 'We're stronger together.'
Ren had rested his hand on her shoulder and nodded solemnly. Nora had then dragged him from the room, declaring loudly that it was time to visit Yang. Jaune had looked back one more time, and then followed them.
Ruby ended the call and picked up her bag. She didn't know how long they would be on the road, hopefully only a couple of weeks, but she needed supplies.
She packed clothes and snuck some food out of the kitchen. Writing a note by hand seemed a little cliché, but she did it anyway. It didn't take long to write because there wasn't a lot to explain. Her dad might not understand, but Yang would—she hoped. She didn't understand her sister much these days. Yang was in so much pain, and Ruby couldn't fix it.
Pushing away the heartache—she couldn't think about that right now—she walked to the corner of the room and picked up her weapons. Ruby used to only carry Crescent Rose. But before Beacon ultimately fell, she had added another weapon to her repertoire.
She picked up the dark grey steel sword. The green power insignia still faintly glowed green. Ruby couldn't make it split into multiple blades like Penny had been able to, but she could still use it. The blade folded up and hid beneath her cloak well. It was a secret weapon, the last resort if she found herself without Crescent Rose.
And Ruby found it comforting. It was like her friend was still there, protecting her and fighting with her.
"Okay," Ruby whispered to the dark room. "I'm combat ready.
"Let's do this."
A/N — I found some really amazing RWBY headcanons on Pinterest. I don't know who they originally belonged to, but I've fully accepted them as headcanons for myself. Thank you, though, mystery OP.
Headcanon used: Ruby has one of Penny's swords. She keeps it folded up and hidden on her at all times.
